CU Kitchen MK Kitchen Helper

Primary Responsibilities:   

Under the general guidance of the Culinary management team and Main Kitchen Cook 1 team members, this position focuses on gaining culinary experience through participating in the day to day operations of the Main Kitchen.  Assist in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner items in a timely manner.  Maintain established quality standards; has basic knowledge of products, uses and availability.  Assist in the preparation of cold dishes, salads, cold meats, fish and poultry dishes; perform simpler tasks such as slicing and grinding meat; banquet action station carving, making pasta, prepare sandwiches, burgers and salads according to menu specifications.  Mix dressing and sauces.  Set-up and breakdown buffets while assisting in running food during the event.  Work under direction of higher rated cooks and/or train for and perform routine cook work under general supervision.

Essential Duties:

  • Cut and prepare fruits, vegetables, and meat; prepare dressings and sauces.
  • Prepare and plate hot and cold sandwiches, soups, salads and other menu items.
  • Assist in the preparation of breakfast, lunch and dinner items; set up work station.
  • Assist in preparing and garnishing cold dishes, salads, cold meats, fish and poultry dishes.
  • Train on entry level cooking duties, i.e. grill burgers and fish, roast meats, etc.
  • Perform simpler tasks in food preparation; make pasta under general supervision of higher rated cooks.
  • Set-up, food running and breakdown for buffets and functions.
  • Perform duties at a banquet action carving station.
  • Check produce, meats, etc. for freshness; ensure proper storage and rotation of food items.
  • Assist higher rated cooks; perform routine cook work in various areas of the kitchen.
  • Convert recipes.
  • Maintain clean, safe, orderly and sanitary work area.
  • Operate kitchen equipment and perform duties following safety procedures and standards.
  • Prepare work station as required.
  • Pick-up food items from storeroom.
  • Complete daily assignments in a timely manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

Other Duties:

  • Assist in menu concepts and ideas.
