What are some common challenges faced by a Bread Butter (Baker) in a commercial bakery setting?

One common challenge for a bread butter (baker) in a commercial bakery is maintaining consistency in product quality despite changing variables such as temperature, humidity, and ingredient batches. Additionally, bakers must work efficiently under tight deadlines, often starting shifts very early in the morning to ensure fresh products are ready for customers. Collaboration with other team members—such as pastry chefs and kitchen assistants—is crucial to coordinate production schedules and meet large orders. Over time, bakers can advance to supervisory roles or specialize in artisan techniques as they gain experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bread Baker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bread Baker, you need a solid understanding of baking techniques, dough handling, and food safety, often supported by experience or a culinary certification. Familiarity with commercial ovens, mixers, proofing equipment, and inventory management systems is often required. Attention to detail, time management, and creativity help bakers stand out in producing high-quality, consistent products. These skills ensure efficiency, product excellence, and customer satisfaction in a competitive bakery environment.

Job description

We're not looking for someone to just "manage a shift" — we want a vibe-setter. Someone who walks in the door and the whole team feels it. At Bread & Butter, our drive-thru is fast, fun, and full of regulars who expect the best. As Shift Leader, you'll be the one making sure every cup, every pastry, and every interaction leaves people smiling and coming back.

What you'll do

  • Lead your crew through busy rushes with energy and confidence — keeping things moving and morale high
  • Open or close the location and hold down the fort like it's your own
  • Make sure every order that goes out the window is right, fast, and made with care
  • Jump on bar, window, or food prep wherever the team needs you most
  • Train and hype up newer team members — you know the standards, now pass them on
  • Handle customer moments (the good ones and the tricky ones) with grace and a smile
  • Keep the space clean, stocked, and ready to crush the next wave

What we're looking for

  • You've worked in food/bev or a fast-paced service environment before — café, bakery, or drive-thru experience is a big plus
  • Natural leader who lifts others up rather than just giving orders
  • Calm under pressure — a long line doesn't rattle you, it motivates you
  • Great communicator with customers and coworkers alike
  • Reliable, on time, and ready to show up with a good attitude
  • A genuine love for good coffee and great food (it shows!)

Company Description

Mom & Son owned store with asperations of growing! Our goal is to cultivate a family atmosphere with our team. We treat our customers as PEOPLE not just numbers.
