Job description

Overview
Organizations across industries are rapidly integrating digital assets into their operations, finance, and technology strategies. As they do so, they confront a complex and evolving tax environment that requires multidisciplinary experience, sophisticated structuring, and ongoing technical guidance.
BPM's Digital Assets practice offers an opportunity to engage directly with industry-defining companies while contributing to market insights, thought leadership, and the advancement of institutional adoption.
This role is designed for a tax professional who is passionate about the blockchain and digital-asset ecosystem, thrives on technical depth, and wants responsibility for both client leadership and business development in a fast-moving sector.
The Team
BPM has been one of the earliest and most committed professional-services providers to the digital-asset industry, serving the ecosystem for more than a decade. Our team blends tax, accounting, advisory, operational, and industry expertise to support companies across the full digital-asset lifecycle.
We advise global enterprises adopting blockchain solutions, Web3 protocols and developers, miners and validators, exchanges, custodians, stablecoin issuers, digital-asset funds, and institutional market participants evaluating tokenization, staking, yield strategies, and DeFi platforms.
Our work extends well beyond tax compliance. We support clients with:
• Token economics and token-flow analysis
• Cross-border structuring and international tax planning
• Revenue recognition frameworks and digital-asset accounting
• Institutional adoption initiatives, including stablecoin use cases and RWA tokenization
• Governance, risk, and compliance programs
• Educational materials, research reports, and market insights that help clients and regulators navigate a fast-evolving landscape
This environment offers both substantive technical work and opportunities to shape the firm's view of the market through research, publication, and external engagement.
Note: Open to candidates nationwide. Those within 45 minutes of a BPM office will be expected to follow a hybrid schedule.
What You'll Do
As a Director, you will lead multidimensional tax engagements, drive marketplace eminence, and help scale BPM's footprint across the digital-asset ecosystem.
Client and Technical Leadership
• Advise clients on entity structuring, tokenomics, sourcing rules, transaction characterization, revenue recognition, and cross-border tax implications.
• Conduct and review advanced tax research, agreements, models, and filings associated with digital-asset transactions and business models.
• Present complex concepts clearly to founders, executives, investment teams, and legal counsel.
• Translate industry developments, market structure considerations, and protocol mechanics into impactful tax strategies.
Research, Market Intelligence, and Thought Leadership
Consistent with leading global advisory practices, this role includes a meaningful contribution to the firm's market perspective and external visibility:
• Stay attuned to market trends, regulatory shifts, developments in DeFi and stablecoin design, token-economics structures, and broader institutional adoption of blockchain technologies.
• Lead or co-author thought-leadership materials such as white papers, executive briefs, technical alerts, and market commentary that shape BPM's public voice in the digital-asset ecosystem.
• Interpret industry developments and emerging technologies to inform client strategies, tax planning approaches, and internal guidance frameworks.
• Deliver presentations and educational content that clearly articulate complex digital-asset issues for clients, conferences, industry groups, and internal leadership.
• Partner with practice leaders to establish thematic priorities, publication pipelines, and coordinated external messaging across the digital-asset practice.
Engagement Management and Client Service
• Serve as the primary engagement manager for advisory and compliance projects.
• Oversee timelines, budgets, resourcing, staff development, and quality control.
• Ensure deliverables meet BPM's standards across technical accuracy, documentation, and communication.
People Development
• Train and mentor staff on both tax fundamentals and digital-asset concepts.
• Support the development of internal technical frameworks and knowledge-management systems.
• Promote a learning culture through structured feedback and hands-on coaching.
• Champion sustainable workplace practices by supporting remote-first operations, promoting paperless workflows through digital collaboration tools, participating in recycling initiatives to minimize paper use, and consistently demonstrate alignment with BPM's values.
Business Development and Marketplace Engagement
A major and intentional part of this role.
• Participate in client and engagement pursuits, including scoping, proposal development, and pitch meetings.
• Represent BPM through webinars, conference speaking engagements, podcasts, roundtables, and other industry events.
• Produce educational materials for enterprise clients, partner organizations, and industry groups.
• Support ecosystem relationships, including strategic alliances, technology partners, and regulatory or policy-education initiatives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • CPA license, JD, or EA
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate or partnership tax, M&A tax, international tax, financial instruments, controversy, or structured transaction analysis.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to convert technical complexity into actionable insights.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engagements, budgets, and client workflows.
  • Knowledge of digital-asset market structure, blockchain fundamentals, token mechanics, or on-chain analytics tools preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work remotely or in a hybrid model and to travel up to approximately 20 percent.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a demonstrable interest in crypto, DeFi, blockchain infrastructure, or emerging financial technology.

BPM Offers:
  • Balance & Flexibility: 14 firm holidays (including 2 floating), Flex PTO, paid family leave, winter break, summer hours, and remote work options.
  • Total Rewards: personalized benefits, including 401(k) employer match; multiple medical, dental, vision offerings with up to 90% employer-paid premiums; and pet insurance.
  • Well-Being: interactive wellness platform, progressive mental-health resources, and Colleague Resource Groups (CRGs).
  • Professional Development: performance-based bonuses, dedicated coaching, and rich learning through BPM University.

Who is successful at BPM:
  • Caring people who put others first

  • Authentic individuals with a diverse point of view
