As a BPI Energy Auditor, your primary responsibilities during an on-site assessment include conducting thorough inspections of residential or commercial buildings to identify energy inefficiencies, using diagnostic equipment to evaluate the building envelope, and documenting findings in detailed reports. You’ll interact directly with clients to explain your findings and recommend upgrades or repairs that improve energy performance. The role often requires collaboration with contractors, utility program managers, and occasionally other auditors to ensure recommendations are implemented correctly and efficiently. This hands-on, dynamic work environment offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact on energy savings and occupant comfort while developing expertise in the growing field of energy efficiency.
A BPI Energy Auditor assesses homes and buildings to identify energy inefficiencies and recommend improvements for energy savings and comfort. They conduct inspections, perform tests like blower door and thermal imaging, and analyze energy usage. Certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI), these professionals help homeowners and businesses reduce energy costs and improve indoor air quality. Their work supports energy efficiency programs and sustainability initiatives.
To thrive as a BPI Energy Auditor, you need a solid understanding of building science, energy efficiency principles, and residential construction, often supported by a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification. Experience with diagnostic tools such as blower doors, combustion analyzers, and infrared cameras is typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication make candidates stand out in this role. These abilities are essential for accurately assessing energy usage, providing client recommendations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

The Energy Auditor Manager position at Community Concepts is looking for you!
This position assists in the coordination and implementation of the Energy Program. Project management of contracts, assisting with budgeting, oversight of sound fiscal practices, training, and the smooth operation of the program as part of the day-to-day activities are some of the essential duties of this position. Working with the Housing Improvement team as well as closely with the Senior Director of Housing and Program Development, this position will also support the organization of the construction/rehab sites, energy programs, assist the team in tracking materials, job costs, and development of project specifications and the bidding process. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position based out of Lewiston, with required daily travel throughout Androscoggin, Oxford, and Cumberland Counties with use of a company vehicle, as well as availability for evening or weekend assignments and occasional overnight meeting requirements.
Starting Rate: $27.20/hour
Benefits:
To Qualify: Associate’s Degree in energy related or home construction field required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred; or five years on-the-job work-related experience. Ability to obtain and maintain BPI Energy Auditor certification and BPI Quality Control certification; minimum four years’ experience performing Home Rehabilitation program inspections required; must have excellent communication skills; able to take accountability for the quality and timeliness of work and achieves results with little oversight; ability and willingness to delegate responsibility; must be able to work effectively with others; ability to coach team members to develop their capabilities; Must have a valid Maine driver's license and liability insurance.
