Position Information

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and must maintain authorization throughout employment. This position is not eligible for sponsorship.
This position is contingent upon the availability of sufficient funding.

Temporary Position Title Group Fitness Instructor-PT (Kickboxing/Boxing) Temporary Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator, the Group Fitness Instructor will 1) provide state of the art instruction that significantly contributes to each member's health and fitness goals. 2) Develop and instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational group fitness classes for all fitness and skill levels. 3) Lead many forms of fitness activities from Step Aerobics to Water Aerobics, cardio kickboxing to boxing, yoga, Zumba, cycling, and many more. Generally, classes are structured with a warm-up, work section, and cool down and some cardio-based classes may include a strength element. Group exercise workouts are accomplished with the instructor leading the class by doing the workout along with the participants who follow her/his lead.
The Group Fitness Instructor is a temporary part-time position and will teach 1- 2 classes per week. Length of assignment is approximately 11 weeks.
Temporary Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities and adaptability at the front of a class making each session fun and enjoyable while motivating participants.
  • Organizational skills in creating combinations to be taught within the parameters of the format.
  • Provide individualized instruction while leading the entire group fitness class.
  • Provide a safe group fitness class with a variety of movement.
  • Ensure the safety of all exercise participants at all times.
  • Vary exercise routines while complying with established formats and standards.
  • Ensure a supportive, inclusive class environment that focuses on body positivity and body acceptance
  • Understand the College's policy on acceptance of gender/non-gender conforming students and create a class environment where everyone is accepted.
  • Ability to work with and accommodate students with accessibilities.
  • Develop relationships with members and encourage success of their personal fitness goals
  • Assist in promoting other health and fitness related programs each class
  • Assist Fitness Coordinator in locating a suitable substitute teacher if unable to instruct class.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and training workshops.

Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of 1-2 years of experience leading group fitness classes required.
This position also requires the instructor to be dependable and punctual and possess strong leadership qualities. Must display an energetic, enthusiastic and motivational attitude during classes. Must present a professional demeanor and appearance.
Must possess excellent oral, written, customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Must be organized and creative.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of one (1) year of aerobic teaching experience preferred.
Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles.
Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions
Must hold a current fitness certification from an accredited certifying agency.
Must have a current First Aid certification.
Must have a current Adult CPR certification.
