Job description

The University of Rio Grande is seeking a full-time Head Bowling Coach to lead and manage both the men's and women's intercollegiate bowling programs. This position is responsible for the overall development, recruitment, training, and competitive success of the programs while fostering academic achievement, sportsmanship, and personal growth among student-athletes.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices and competitive strategies for both men's and women's bowling programs.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and retain qualified student-athletes in accordance with NAIA, United States Bowling Congress and institutional guidelines.
  • Promote academic success, character development, and positive team culture.
  • Prepare lineups, develop match strategies, and provide technical instruction and performance feedback.
  • Coordinate team travel, scheduling, and logistics in collaboration with the athletic department.
  • Monitor and support student-athlete academic progress and eligibility requirements.
  • Manage program budgets and equipment inventories.
  • Maintain compliance with all institutional, conference, USBC, and NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Build positive relationships with campus partners, alumni, and the local bowling community.
  • Represent the University at athletic, campus, and community events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous collegiate coaching experience or high-level competitive bowling experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of bowling techniques, lane play, and competitive strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Prior experience coaching both men's and women's programs.
  • Knowledge of USBC and NAIA rules and regulations.
  • Experience in program administration and budget management.
  • Commitment to student-athlete academic success and holistic development.
