A Torque & Test Technician performs field-based torque, testing, and pressure-control support for wellsite intervention operations. This position helps ensure the integrity and reliability of oilfield equipment by installing, removing, troubleshooting, and pressure testing BOP, frac, wellhead, and related equipment in accordance with company safety standards, customer requirements, and applicable procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Perform hydrostatic testing by safely pressurizing systems with liquid, such as water, to verify integrity and identify leaks or defects.
  • Test pipe, pipelines, vessels, and related equipment to identify defective materials, leaks, or pressure-integrity issues.
  • Pressure test mission-critical oilfield equipment to verify safe operation, maintain equipment integrity, and support proper functioning during oil and gas operations.
  • Determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and material specs.
  • Install, remove, and test production and drilling BOP equipment.
  • Install, remove, and test frac equipment.
  • Install, remove, and test wellhead equipment.
  • Troubleshoot leaks and problems with frac and well-head equipment.
  • Operate company equipment safely and efficiently while performing safety-sensitive functions in accordance with company standards.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, guidelines, job safety analyses, and standard operating procedures.
  • Follow customer requirements, site-specific safety rules, hazard communication requirements, and applicable procedures for pressure-control, wellsite, and special services operations.
  • Travel up to 75% to remote job sites

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • High school graduate/diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a Torque & Test Technician, Test and Torque Operator, or similar role required.
  • Familiarity with pressure pumps rated up to 25,000 psi, portable units, test cabins, fill pumps, incline water fillers, and related testing equipment.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in well servicing, pressure control, pumping operations, or similar oilfield services activities, including frac, coil tubing, or fishing operations, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Accumulators and BOP functionality
  • Ability and demonstrated competency to operate high-pressure BOP and rental equipment as
  • Basic math, writing, computer, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter and ability to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Mobility and ability to use ladders or other access devices up to 15 ft.; ability to bend, stoop, twist, stand, squat, crawl and walk.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; English proficiency preferred.
  • The ability to interact with others in a team and fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a valid, active state-issued driver license. CDL preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 75 lbs frequently, including pressure-testing equipment, BOP components, hoses, tools, and related field equipment; team lifting or mechanical assistance may be required for heavier or awkward loads.
  • During a typical 12-hour shift, work may include approximately 6 hours of standing, 5 hours of walking, and 3 hours of sitting, depending on job assignment and site conditions.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, climb, reach, push, pull, and use fine motor skills while installing, removing, testing, troubleshooting, and handling high-pressure equipment and related tools.
  • Climb ladders and access equipment up to 15 feet and work on or around elevated equipment surfaces as required.
  • Demonstrate grip strength of approximately 80-100 lbs per hand for tool use, hose handling, connection makeup, and pressure-control equipment operation.
  • Work 12-hour shifts on a typical 14/7 rotation schedule, with travel up to 75% to field and wellsite locations.

Typical working conditions and hazards:

  • Work is performed primarily outdoors at field and wellsite locations in all weather conditions, including temperature extremes.
  • Work in high-noise environments where hearing protection may be required in accordance with company policy and applicable safety requirements.
  • Use required PPE, including H2S respiratory protection or other respirator protection when required, and maintain applicable medical clearance, fit testing, and training requirements.
  • Potential hazards include high-pressure testing up to 25,000 psi, BOP and wellhead equipment, pressure pumps, moving machinery, heavy tools, stored-energy sources, and pinch-point hazards.
  • Potential exposure to H2S, airborne toxins, solvents, flammable atmospheres, industrial chemicals, and other wellsite hazards may require hazard communication training, respiratory protection, and other site-specific controls.
