Job description

THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MANATEE COUNTY Local Title: CLERK, BOOKSTORE (PART-TIME) State Title: Clerk, Instructional Media JOB DESCRIPTION JOB CODE: To coordinate all activities in Bookstore by ordering, inventorying and selling to provide the materials needed by students and staff in a cost efficient manner. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma or approved equivalency diploma.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience of secretarial / clerical or typing experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize. Ability to perform duties guided by standard practices. Basic understanding of computer hardware and software. Knowledge of courses, books and supplies required. Ability to receive the public with poise, patience and tact. Basic understanding of account balance sheets and financial accountability. REPORTS TO: Director of Manatee Technical College or designee SUPERVISES: N/A PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide good quality customer service.
  • Modify and maintain computer inventory of textbooks and supplies.
  • Order books, uniforms and supplies to meet school's needs.
  • Balance cash register at end of shift.
  • Process deferrals through computerized inventory system.
  • Establish and track mark-up rates.
  • Coordinate with auditors to maintain audit trail to meet School Board policies.
  • Generate and maintain photo ID file for students and staff.
  • Prepare daily "End of Day Monies Report."
  • Serve as "back-up" secretary whenever needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Meet and deal effectively with staff members, students, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
  • Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Represent the school in a positive and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
  • Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals and objectives.
  • Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
