Job Description Tax Accountant - Personal & Small Business Returns About Company Our client is a boutique CPA firm based in Brooklyn, serving individuals, families, and small business owners throughout NYC. They are growing their team ahead of tax season and looking for a detail-oriented Tax Accountant who enjoys working directly with clients not just crunching numbers behind the scenes. The Role Looking for someone with the client-facing energy of a seasonal tax pro combined with the technical depth of a CPA firm.

You'll prepare and review individual and small business tax returns, meet with clients one-on-one, and help them understand their numbers not just file them. What You'll Do Prepare and review individual (Form 1040) and small business tax returns (Schedule C, 1120-S, 1065) Meet with clients in-person and virtually to gather documents and walk through their returns Identify deductions, credits, and planning opportunities specific to each client's situation Communicate directly with clients on tax questions, IRS notices, and filing status Assist with quarterly estimated tax payments and light bookkeeping cleanup as needed Ad hoc projects as assigned What We're Looking For 2+ years of tax preparation experience (CPA firm, retail tax prep, or similar) BS in Accounting or related field Working knowledge of individual and small business tax returns Comfortable using professional tax software (Drake, UltraTax, Lacerte, or similar) CPA, EA, or actively pursuing licensure preferred, not required Strong communicator who's comfortable explaining tax concepts to non-experts Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple client files during peak season What We Offer Direct mentorship from firm partners real path to growth, not a call-center environment Opportunity for year-round work beyond the tax season rush Competitive compensation and benefits At Empower Staffing, we are dedicated to connecting top talent with leading companies.
