About the Role
We're hiring an Automotive Technician (Diagnostics & Fleet Repair) to support the readiness of autonomous vehicle fleets in San Francisco. This is a hands-on, engineering-focused technician role where you will perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs to ensure vehicles are safe, road-ready, and prepared for testing and demonstration.
This role is best suited for experienced automotive technicians with recent hands-on diagnostic and repair experience, strong electrical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work through complex vehicle problems from symptom to resolution. Candidates whose experience is primarily oil changes, tires, basic preventative maintenance, or routine service are unlikely to be a strong match.
What You'll Do
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, repairs, and fleet rework across autonomous fleet vehicles.
  • Configure, set up, and sign off on vehicles for safe on-road operation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical vehicle issues using structured diagnostic methods.
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams and technical documentation to isolate faults.
  • Coordinate repairs from initial diagnosis through resolution.
  • Develop diagnostic test plans to support troubleshooting and validation.
  • Escalate complex issues to engineering teams with clear documentation of testing and findings.
  • Maintain accurate service records and quality field reports.
  • Partner closely with shop leadership to ensure vehicles are ready for testing and demonstrations.
  • Support shop operations, including tools, workspace organization, and parts inventory.
  • Travel locally as needed to support fleet operations.
Required Qualifications
  • 2-4+ years of recent, hands-on professional automotive technician experience.
  • Strong automotive diagnostic and repair experience beyond routine maintenance and basic service.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting mechanical and automotive electrical systems.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and structured troubleshooting methods.
  • Ability to identify and isolate root causes of vehicle problems.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean/excellent driving record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple repair priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to pass a background check, MVR check, and drug screen.
  • Current valid forklift operator certification compliant with Cal/OSHA standards, or willingness to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CAN or CAN bus systems.
  • Experience reading automotive wiring diagrams or electrical schematics.
  • Experience using multimeters or related electrical diagnostic equipment.
  • Experience in an automotive testing, validation, prototype, R&D, EV, or autonomous vehicle environment.
  • Experience working in automotive labs, including dyno, battery, or testing environments.
  • Soldering experience.
  • Technical trade school certificate or Associate Degree in automotive repair.
  • Experience towing car haulers or large trailers used to transport vehicles.
Additional Requirements
  • Forklift certification required OR ability to obtain quickly
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and safety awareness
  • Ability to manage multiple repair priorities in a fast-paced environment
Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay: $46-$50 per hour
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), commuter benefits, FSA, and more
