Job Description
Bonnell Aluminum is a leading manufacturer of custom aluminum extrusions in North America. With a commitment to customer excellence, our production facilities cater to many of the nation's largest and most respected manufacturing companies through design solutions, unparalleled extrusion capabilities, and services.
At the Niles MI facility, we are searching for a responsible process engineer to lead the optimization and automation of production processes. As an integral part of the extrusion team, the Extrusion Process Engineer will be critical in solving challenges while improving manufacturing quality and efficiency. The position will be working closely with cross-functional managers in support of company's overall operating goals and objectives.
Your Role:
  • Support extrusion press operations including sawing, heat treating, die shop, and maintenance
  • Evaluate current processes and procedures to establish/implement positive change.
  • Assess process capabilities, prioritize process improvement opportunities, and innovate and implement process improvements.
  • Assist in the development of new product trials and trial parameters.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for extrusion department.
  • Work closely with maintenance department to assist in the development and prioritization of preventive maintenance methods.
  • Work closely with quality, planning, and operations departments to analyze and reduce production expenses while supporting the development of new products.
  • Assist in equipment optimization process and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Apply an understanding of process and equipment failure modes to create reliable systems and processes.
  • Prepare engineering reports and requests for capital with justification of ROI.

Required Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's in engineering or other related technical degree, or equivalent work experience.
  • SolidWorks/AutoCAD or similar experience
  • Strong communication and time management skills.
  • Strong leadership skills; to work within a team environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word)

Preferred Skills:
  • Previous project management and capital expenditure experience
  • Excellent understanding of all aluminum extrusion processes.
  • Excellent understanding of metallurgical properties of various aluminum alloys.
  • Hands-on experience with all facets of extrusion processing in a production environment.
  • Ability in developing and maintaining strong relationships with production staff.
  • Experience in utilizing Six Sigma and lean tools.
