Job description

Description:

The Boiler Service Technician Lead is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial boilers, burners, and associated systems. This role demands both technical expertise and a strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and service light commercial to large industrial watertube and firetube boilers.
  • Perform combustion setup, analysis, and adjustments on burners ranging from 0.5 to 30 million BTU/HR.
  • Diagnose and repair the most complex industrial burners and combustion systems.
  • Lead and train other technicians in job responsibilities, ensuring clear understanding of policies, procedures and expectations.
  • Assist Service Manager in assigning and scheduling work orders, reviewing performance and effectiveness of Service Technicians, and monitoring completion of work orders.
  • Conduct internal and external inspections of boilers and associated control systems.
  • Replace and repair gaskets, valves, and various boiler components.
  • Evaluate steam and hydronic systems to identify issues and propose solutions.
  • Work with boiler support equipment including deaerators, feedwater systems, economizers, and blowdown systems.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and calibrate instrumentation such as thermocouples, loop controllers, transmitters, and other process controls.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
  • Relocation assistance is offered to eligible candidates located outside the region.
Requirements:
  • At least 7 yearsโ€™ experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial boilers, burners, and associated systems.
  • A valid driverโ€™s license is required with a clean record. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require travel.
  • Must pass pre-employment background and an initial and subsequent random drug screening tests.
  • Self-motivated individual who works independently, as well as in a team atmosphere.
  • Good customer service skills are mandatory
  • Present a positive professional image with customers.
  • Experience leading work projects or teams.
  • Ability to train and explain work procedures clearly to others.
  • Must be able to operate independently and communicate efficiently and effectively with both customers and management.
  • Detail-oriented in completing work orders, all required forms, summaries, and checklists.
  • Must have strong language skills as well as industry specific vocabulary.
  • Basic mathematics, algebra, and formula knowledge are required.
  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.

Tier 4 (Lead) Mastery and Integration with PLC:

  • Technician understands programming and troubleshooting Siemens and Autoflame for boiler control systems.
  • Technician understands integrating PLCs with burner systems.
  • Technician understands designing and modifying burner and boiler control logic in programmable platforms.
  • Technician understands diagnosing and resolving complex control issues involving VFDs, relays, interlocks, and networks.
  • Technician understands training junior technicians on combustion, electrical, and control systems.
  • Technician understands designing preventive maintenance schedules for all major components including pumps, burners, controls, and safety devices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and climb frequently.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to push/pull heavy equipment and maneuver tubing and materials.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated areas.
  • Working with hot steam, liquids, tight spaces, and other conditions depending on customer site(s).
  • Must pass a physical (fit test), hearing and eye exam.

Required Education:

  • Completed High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of technical school, community college or trade school.
  • Computer knowledge a plus.
