Job description

System Test Engineer Lead - Sapphire

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is seeking a motivated & experienced Test System Engineer Lead for Sapphire Program in the Systems Engineering Integration and Test (SEIT) team. Sapphire for BDS is Boeing's enterprise modernization program to standardize and unify digital engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing processes across defense platforms. This role partners with IT, engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, and stakeholders to plan, track, and deliver program objectives on schedule, within budget, and to the required technical performance and safety standards. The Program Manager will report to theSr Manager of the SEIT organization and partner day-to-day with Integrated Product Team (IPT) leads, Program Integration Office (PIO) and customer program managers.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) efforts for the Sapphire program, owning test strategy, planning, execution, and closure across lab, ground, and flight environments.

  • Develop and maintain the program-level test & verification master plan, detailed test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria; ensure traceability to system requirements.

  • Define, establish and manage integration labs, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setups, test benches, telemetry, and data collection/analysis capabilities necessary to execute test campaigns.

  • Coordinate cross-discipline integration and test activities with cross functional IT bedrocks (ERP, MES, PDM) and I&I and subcontractor teams.

  • Lead test execution for complex system-level integration events, anomaly resolution, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions; drive test defect lifecycle to closure.

  • Establish and implement test automation, repeatability, and regression frameworks to facilitate continuous integration and continuous verification.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable aerospace standards and certification artifacts (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, MILSTD, program-specific compliance requirements), and support certification authorities and program audits.

  • Produce and present test status, risk assessments, metrics, findings, and recommendations to program leadership and stakeholders; maintain schedule and resource forecasts.

  • Mentor, develop, and lead a multidisciplinary test team (engineers, technicians) including task allocation, performance feedback, and professional development.

  • Incorporate safety, cybersecurity, and configuration management controls into test planning and execution; ensure test activities respect export control and classified handling requirements when applicable.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. A final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience): (please see education and experience for the levels below)

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 5+ years of relevant industry experience in systems integration and test, and leading complex, multi-discipline test teams or test organizations.

  • 5+ years of experience in developing and executing system-level test plans, procedures, and campaigns across lab, HIL, and flight environments.

  • 5+ years of experience with test automation and scripting in at least one language/toolset (e.g., Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Tcl).

  • 5+ years of experience applying requirements-based verification and maintain requirement-to-test traceability using tools such as DOORS, Polarion, or equivalent.

  • 5+ years of experience with configuration management, anomaly/defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, TeamCenter), and test data management.

  • 5+ years of experience performing root-cause analysis and driving corrective actions across organizational boundaries.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience briefing senior leadership and external stakeholders.

  • 5+ years of experiencein program-level planning, scheduling, and resource management skills.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience):

  • Level 5: Bachelor's and 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, or related technical discipline.

  • Prior experience with Boeing or other major aerospace/defense program test leadership, ideally on reconnaissance, space, or ISR programs.

  • Knowledge of and experience supporting certification/compliance processes relevant to defense systems (DO-178C, DO-254, MILSTD882 for safety, RMF for cybersecurity).

  • Experience with RF and sensor integration, networking, distributed systems, SATCOM, or EW domains relevant to the Sapphire mission set.

  • Hands-on experience (5+ years) with software integration, embedded/real-time software testing, telemetry and data analysis; familiarity with flight-test support processes.

  • Ability and strong desire to mentor and coach junior level test engineers

  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines for embedded systems and related toolchains (Jenkins, GitLab, etc.).

  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and workflows (e.g., SysML, Cameo, MagicDraw).

  • Prior leadership experience in high-tempo flight test programs and hands-on flight test instrumentation/telemetry teams.

  • Active TS/SCI or prior experience working with compartmented programs and handling classified test artifacts.

  • Demonstrated success in negotiation and coordination with multiple subcontractors and industry partners.

  • Professional certifications: INCOSE CSEP/ASEP, PMP, or equivalent.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications. In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
