Experienced Software Engineer

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Software Engineer to join the National Systems Programs (NSP) software team in El Segundo CA or Chantilly, VA.

The selected candidate will work perform full stack development using the AWS infrastructure. The ideal candidate has experience working across the tech stack with a solid understanding of software architecture, infrastructure tooling, and engineering fundamentals. The candidate will collaborate with cross functional teams and stakeholders to design and implement scalable software solutions, ensure engineering excellence, and achieve program objectives.

As a member of the Boeing software team, you will be involved in the entire product development lifecycle, from conceptualization and development to the maintenance and support of the delivered system for our customers. These roles provide opportunities for you to significantly influence project outcomes. The Boeing NSP Software team fosters a collaborative mentoring environment, allowing you to learn, mentor others, and contribute to shaping the future of our organization.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops, tests, and maintains web applications that meet industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards

  • Reviews, analyze, and translates customer requirements into initial design of software products

  • Develops, maintains, enhances, and optimizes software products and functionalities for systems integrations

  • Develops, documents, and maintains architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces and designs for software products

  • Participates in the agile software development lifecycle including planning, reviews, and supporting customer meetings

  • Analyze, characterize, debug and resolve performance related issues to ensure reliability and efficiency of software products

  • Handles user inquiries, troubleshoot technical issues, and analyze user feedback

  • Implements current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and changes in regulations relevant to software development

  • Develop, establish, monitor, and improve software processes, tools, and key performance metrics that align with organization goals and industry benchmarks

  • Executes and documents software research and development projects

  • Advise on software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations

  • Performs software project management activities and software supplier management functions

  • Tracks and evaluates software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process compliance to project plans and industry standards

  • Performs cost benefit analysis to help guide technical solutions

Security Clearance:

This position requires an active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) U.S. Security Clearance with an adjudicated Counterintelligence or Full Scope Polygraph (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 3+ years' experience designing and developing software for complex systems (i.e. Distributed Systems, Multi-Threaded and Multi-Process Applications) and a foundation in computer science and software development

  • 3+ years' experience with Python

  • 3+ plus years' experience front end web programming (Angular 9/10+, Typescript, JavaScript)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience

  • Strong understanding of software architecture principles and design patterns

  • Experience with relational databases

  • Experience with software development using agile principles and a structured development process

  • Experience in Infrastructure Tooling (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD Pipelines)

  • Experience in building out regression test suites

  • Experience with systems engineering or software development on space-based or ground-based systems
