Performs scrub functions and other roles, which support the perioperative plan of care. Assures the provision of comfort, safety, and quality perioperative care for the patient.Job Responsibilities:--30% Demonstrates Knowledge of Operative Procedures:-Draping -Instrumentation -Suture -Equipment -Ability to aseptically set up and keep mayo and back table organized throughout procedure. -Ability to correctly count and account for all required items prior to, during and following the procedure. -Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon. -Accountability in checking instrumentation, equipment, and supplies prior to use in a procedure. -Knowledgeable of specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures. -Seeks out information and support for areas of knowledge deficit prior to use. -Ability to plan, prepare and function in emergency situations. -Has room ready prior to time for scheduled case. -Minimizes turnover by assisting and preparing for next case by obtaining instruments, equipment, and other necessary supplies. -Is in OR room where patient is brought into the room.--30% Demonstrates Knowledge of and Utilizes Principles of Aseptic Technique Including but not Limited to Gowning, Gloving, Sterilization and Disinfection:-Assesses safety and safe mechanical condition of equipment and report any malfunction. -Demonstrates competency in handling, identifying and labeling medications on the sterile field. -Properly disposes of sharps, ie, needles, blades, trocars, wire, staples, and bovie tips. -Assists in proper cleaning, moving and storage of equipment. -Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization/disinfection techniques and indications for each sterilization modality utilized e.g., Steris, steam Sterrad, event related sterility. -Demonstrates proper cleanliness of instrumentation prior to disinfection/sterilization. -Corrects situations in support of surgical conscience as appropriate.---20% Actively Participates in Unit Activities:--Demonstrates behaviors of teamwork: -Positive attitude.-Willingness to accept and carry out assignments.-Cooperative and collaborate with team members.-Attend staff meetings when assigned to work or reads meeting minutes. -Participate in orientation of new staff or students. -Submits updates to preference cards to service coordinators.-Exhibits constructive use of free time. -Competes special duties as assigned. -Demonstrates initiative in improving department services. -Demonstrates versatility in a variety of OR specialties. -Keeps abreast of current advancements in the OR. -Understands PI and job accountability in relationship to their goal(s). -Supports Patient Safety Goals.--10% Attends all Required Safety Training Programs:-Able to describe his/her responsibilities related to safety.-Demonstrates knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals.-Demonstrates knowledge of AORN Guidelines and Recommended Practices.-Completes all assigned safety/education training as required.--10% Ensures Positive Customer Relations Interactions:-Manages difficult or emotional customer situations.-Responds promptly to customer needs.-Solicits customer feedback to improve service.-Responds to requests for service and assistance.-Meets commitments.
