CIVIL SERVICE TITLE(S):  Music Therapist (Competitive)


JOB DESCRIPTION

The Music Therapist is responsible for developing and implementing a music therapy program designed to meet the individual needs of students with special needs enrolled.  The program is provided in multiple service locations.

TYPICAL DUTIES: 

  1. Provide individual music therapy evaluations/intervention in multiple locations.
  2. Prepare, implement, and evaluate Individualized Education Plans for each student.
  3. Maintain all necessary and appropriate records.
  4. Communicate with administrators, teachers, parents and students regarding progress/status of music therapy program.
  5. Participate in team meetings, faculty meetings, parent meetings, and annual review meetings as appropriate.
  6. Provide training activities as requested.
  7. Assist classroom staff in developing instructional techniques in the area of music therapy.
  8. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Exceptional Children Administration.


QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess or meet Civil Service requirements for title of Music Therapist. Prior experience teaching students with special needs is strongly preferred.  
NYS Creative Arts Therapy license or NYS Board Certified Music Therapist; appropriate coursework in music therapy; and registration as a MT by the American Music Therapy Association, or active pursuit of same, is required.
