PART TIME TRAINING CAPTAIN JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Locations: Surf City, NC

Status: Part-Time

Reports to: Director of Sales, Marketing, and Member Experience

We deliver unforgettable, hassle-free experiences so our members can focus on creating lifelong memories. As the world's largest members-only boat club, we believe our people are our greatest asset. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Training Captain who embodies our values and is passionate about empowering others through safe, joyful boating.

Position Summary:

Training Captains are Freedom Boat Club's first impression for our new members. You'll welcome them with warmth and professionalism, while instilling confidence and competence on the water. From classroom instruction to hands-on training at the helm, you'll help members build the skills they need to boat safely and love every minute of it!

Core Roles and Responsibilities

  • Conduct all classroom and on-water training sessions for new and existing members,
  • Demonstrate excellent communication in collaboration with Member Services Specialist to schedule and train members and provide captain services for member events as needed.
  • Evaluate member performance, and make recommendations for additional training, when necessary,
  • Accurately update member profiles and certifications using provided iPad or tablet and,
  • Foster a safe, friendly, and fun environment that reflects Freedom Boat Club's commitment to excellence.

You are a confident and safety-conscious boater with a genuine passion for teaching others. You thrive in service-first environments, where your professionalism and warmth shine through. Reliable and clear in your communication, you're also comfortable using technology to manage training documentation. You bring sound judgment and the ability to provide respectful, honest feedback. Most importantly, you're flexible and solutions-focused-always ready to step up and "carry the cooler" when needed.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

You demonstrate commitment to our core values. With uncompromising integrity, you take ownership of your actions, show respect in every interaction, and grow through honest reflection. Required Skills:

  • Current and Valid USCG Captain's License (OUPV or Master),
  • Comprehensive boating experience and comfort operating 17-24 feet vessels,
  • Experience in instruction, coaching, and/or customer service strongly preferred,
  • Flexible availability with a required 2 guaranteed days per week to prioritize new members training and get them on the water.
  • Confidence to instruct in-shore, off-shore, refresher, and skill-specific training.
  • Ability to work consecutive hours in southern summer heat, and varying weather, all while delivering world class customer service.
