Summary Malibu is the world’s leading towboat manufacturer and now looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Product Development Engineering team. This position will perform mechanical engineering duties to support both New Product Engineering and Product Development in the continuous improvement of the Malibu product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with the Industrial design team, assume the lead engineering role on multiple new product designs and continuous improvements in boat interior and exterior designs; including, but not limited to hull, deck, stringer, interior components, thermoform, lamination, and other design and mechanical systems.
  • Perform and evaluate weight studies and CFD runs for new model design.
  • Mechanical design of parts for lamination, CNC production, injection molding, and vacuum forming.
  • Develop and maintain technical mechanical drawings and specifications for new and existing mechanical designs. Examples include, but not limited to, hull, deck, stringer, interior components, exterior hardware, and other mechanical designs.
  • Use engineering and computer design software, specifically surface modeling, NX, and Solidworks. Additional use of AutoCAD.
  • Manage new product design and continuous improvement of Malibu and Axis boats’ mechanical designs.
  • Responsible for the preparation and daily management of estimates, cost reports, and project schedules for multiple projects and suppliers.
  • Confer with management, production, sales, and supply chain to determine engineering feasibility, cost, customer demand, and increasing customer value through new products and product improvements.
  • Provide cross-departmental support and effective communication of all areas of responsibility with a specific focus on daily manufacturing support and continuous quality improvements.
  • Regularly identify opportunities for product improvements and re-engineer designs to enhance the form, fit, and function of current and new designs.
  • Regularly Investigates system/product weaknesses to continuously improve and prevent further issues.
  • Regularly specifies system components necessary to ensure proper functionality of a product.
  • Works daily to manage and coordinate multiple projects, keeping them on time and on budget.
  • Works daily with outside vendors/suppliers to provide feedback for product design, areas of improvement, and testing results.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience                                                   

BSME, or related degree from ABET accredited University required

Minimum 5 yrs experience in mechanical engineering and product development required

Minimum 5 yrs experience in SolidWorks, NX, or other parametric 3D CAD required

Experience in Surface modeling, NX, and AutoCAD preferred

Experience in manufacturing environment required

Familiarity with production of components requiring injection molding, casting, CNC milling operation required

Familiarity with production of components requiring tool handling and material preparation required

Portfolio of mechanical design projects preferred

Language Skills                                                

English required. Effective communication skills will be necessary to perform tasks.

Mathematical Skills                                                     

Will use mathematics to solve problems, up to the algebraic level.
