Job description

ABOUT HUT 8
Imagine the ultimate destination for those who want to work at the cutting edge of technology, energy, and infrastructure. Hut 8 is on a mission to build and operate some of the world's largest data centers for next-generation computing workloads, including AI, Colocation, Cloud, and Bitcoin Mining. We are proud to offer interesting and challenging opportunities for individuals who want to build teams, solve problems, and make an impact from day one. If you're an ambitious individual looking for a career that is as rewarding as it is challenging, you've come to the right place.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Commissioning Field Engineer to support the testing, verification, and turnover of critical infrastructure systems across our data center and mission-critical facility portfolio. This is a hands-on, field-oriented role responsible for executing commissioning programs from pre-functional testing through integrated system verification. The role is project-based, which means assignment locations will vary - candidates must be comfortable with travel and potential relocation to support active project sites across our growing footprint.
Some of the key responsibilities you should expect are the following:
  • Execute pre-functional, functional, and integrated system commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
  • Support startup and commissioning of critical infrastructure including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, and BMS/EPMS platforms
  • Document commissioning activities, test results, deficiencies, and resolutions in accordance with project commissioning plans
  • Coordinate closely with general contractors, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and the owner's engineering team to sequence and execute commissioning activities
  • Conduct site observations to verify installations are complete and compliant with design drawings and specifications prior to testing
  • Identify field deficiencies and work with the project team to drive timely resolution before milestone dates
  • Support and ensure readiness for operational turnover
  • Maintain accurate, detailed commissioning records including test reports, punch lists, and equipment start-up logs
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with site-specific safety plans and OSHA standards during all commissioning activities
  • Communicate daily progress, issues, and schedule risks to the project commissioning lead or project manager

ABOUT YOU
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning, startup, or field engineering within data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems common to mission-critical environments (UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling, BMS/EPMS)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, single-line diagrams, and equipment submittals
  • Strong understanding of commissioning documentation requirements including test scripts, punch lists, and turnover packages
  • Experience coordinating with multiple trades and subcontractors on active construction sites
  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, milestone-driven project environments with shifting priorities
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills - able to produce clear field reports and communicate issues effectively to project leadership
  • Willingness and ability to travel to project sites; relocation may be required based on project assignment
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
  • Experience with mission-critical infrastructure commissioning (power, cooling, fiber, telecom) is a strong plus
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license; active passport preferred for potential international project assignments

ABOUT THE WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is project-based and will be assigned to active data center construction and commissioning sites within Hut 8's portfolio. Assignment locations will vary and candidates should expect regular travel with the possibility of extended on-site presence or relocation depending on project needs. Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the role.
WHAT MAKES HUT 8 A GREAT PLACE TO WORK
