Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is a Partner of Choice for the Nebraska University System. Our Interns work a hybrid schedule and spend some days working on-site at our Omaha office located in Aksarben Village. Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from Wednesday, May 26 - Friday, July 30, 2027.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is seeking motivated students with a passion for cybersecurity, infrastructure, and operational excellence. This internship offers hands-on experience in enterprise security, cloud infrastructure, and Agile best practices in a collaborative and rewarding environment.
What you'll do:
  • Security Operations & Monitoring: Work alongside SOC analysts to monitor alerts, investigate threats, and support incident response using tools like Microsoft Sentinel, Defender XDR, CrowdStrike, and Proofpoint
  • Tooling & Automation: Gain exposure to Cribl, CyberArk, and automation platforms used to streamline observability and access management
  • Training & Development: Complete SOC Core Skills, Sentinel KQL training, and immersive labs. Participate in Cyber Tatanka for real-world simulation experience
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Engage with teams across Security Engineering, Application Security, and Access Management.
  • Capstone Project: Tackle a challenge such as improving alert fidelity, automating infrastructure tasks, or enhancing observability dashboards.

Technology Focus Areas:
  • Access & Identity: Azure AD, CyberArk, MFA, Role-Based Access Control
  • Automation & Observability: Cribl, Sentinel KQL, Monitoring Dashboards, Performance Tuning
  • Cybersecurity Tools: CrowdStrike, Defender XDR, Proofpoint, Tenable, KnowBe4
  • Security Operations: SIEM, Threat Detection, Incident Response, Vulnerability Management

What we are looking for:
  • High School diploma required
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field
  • Strong interest in enterprise security and infrastructure
  • Intellectual curiosity and a drive to learn
  • Experience or interest in one or more of the following: Security operations and monitoring, Cloud infrastructure and automation, Identity and access management or Observability and performance engineering
