What is a blue force?

Blue Force refers to the friendly or allied forces in military operations, exercises, or simulations. The term is commonly used to distinguish one's own military units or partners from adversaries, who are often referred to as 'Red Force.' Blue Force tracking and identification are critical in complex operations to prevent friendly fire and coordinate strategic actions effectively.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a blue force operator?

To thrive as a Blue Force operator, you need strong tactical awareness, operational planning skills, and relevant military or law enforcement training. Familiarity with command-and-control systems, GPS tracking, and secure communication tools is typically required. Leadership, decision-making under pressure, and teamwork are crucial soft skills in this role. These competencies ensure mission effectiveness, safety, and coordination in high-stakes security or defense operations.

What are common challenges faced by blue force analysts in joint military operations?

Blue Force analysts often navigate the complexities of integrating information from multiple military branches and allied nations, which can lead to challenges in communication and data sharing. They must maintain situational awareness of friendly forces while ensuring sensitive information is appropriately protected. Additionally, adapting to rapidly changing operational environments and technologies requires continuous learning and flexibility. Strong collaboration skills and attention to detail are essential for success in this dynamic role.

What is the difference between Blue Force vs Security Guard?

AspectBlue ForceSecurity Guard
Required CredentialsBasic security training, possibly specialized in law enforcement tacticsSecurity officer certification, state-specific licensing
Work EnvironmentMilitary, law enforcement, or specialized security settingsCommercial, residential, or event security
Employer & Industry UsageGovernment agencies, military contractors, private security firmsPrivate security companies, businesses, property management

Blue Force typically refers to specialized security or law enforcement personnel with specific training and operational roles, often in military or tactical environments. Security Guards are more general security personnel responsible for protecting property and people in various settings. While both roles focus on security, Blue Force personnel usually have advanced training and operate in more tactical or high-risk environments compared to standard Security Guards.

Job description

ABOUT THE JOB

At Anduril, we are developing unmanned systems for subsurface, surface, land, and air domains that will leverage unsupervised autonomy for the delivery of multi-mission capability to our customers. These projects require Warfighting Systems Analysts who can connect operational needs to system architecture, technical performance, integration choices, and mission-level outcomes. We are looking for our next Warfighting Systems Analyst to join our rapidly growing team.
The Warfighting Systems Analyst supports the design, evaluation, and optimization of defense systems by focusing on how systems should be designed, configured, integrated, and employed to deliver warfighting advantage. The analyst works at the intersection of mission engineering, systems analysis, operations research, product development, and technical trade-space evaluation. They translate operational problems into system-level questions, leverage high-end models and simulations to assess technical and architectural alternatives, and provide decision-quality analysis that helps engineering, product, and business leaders make informed choices. Modeling, Simulation, and Analysis (MS&A) will often complement demonstration events that together leave no doubt that Anduril offers real warfighter capability.
This role is ideal for individuals who can reason across military operations and technical systems, evaluate performance tradeoffs, and communicate how system design decisions affect operational utility.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Analyze system performance, architecture, integration options, and design trades in the context of operational mission needs
  • Translate warfighting requirements and operational constraints into system-level parameters, performance thresholds, and analytic frameworks
  • Leverage high-end models and simulations, including Anduril's Lattice Mission Simulation and the Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM), to conduct studies
  • Support engineering and product teams by evaluating how platform, payload, autonomy, sensor, effector, communications, navigation, or C2 choices affect mission outcomes
  • Conduct trade studies comparing alternative system configurations, architectures, payloads, deployment concepts, and operational employment models
  • Design, execute, and analyze tactical (engagement-level and mission-level) analysis and wargames to assess autonomous system capabilities and refine tactics
  • Develop physics-based models and relevant operational scenarios, with an emphasis on modeling red and blue force systems and tactics
  • Develop measures of performance, key performance parameters, key system attributes, and operationally meaningful technical metrics
  • Assess system-of-systems interactions, integration risks, dependencies, constraints, and mission impacts
  • Partner with warfighting capability analysts to ensure system analysis remains grounded in real operational problems and customer needs
  • Collaborate with engineering and business development teams to demonstrate Anduril's capabilities and value proposition through rigorous, data-driven analysis
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 8+ years of experience in Operations Research, Systems Analysis (ORSA), systems engineering, mission engineering, test and evaluation, or a related technical-operational discipline
  • Experience with tactical experiment and wargaming design, including scenario development, data analytics, and trade-space analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in modeling and simulation for military missions, with a preference for a background in red force tactics, modeling, and simulation
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical direction and mentorship to junior M&S engineers guiding analytic approach, validating methodology, and reviewing work products
  • Experience with DoD M&S tools (e.g., AFSIM, Brawler, Suppressor, ESAMS, Command PE)
  • Experience developing analytic products or tools usable by non-M&S specialists
  • Proficiency with C++ or Python for physics-based modeling and scripting
  • Ability to connect system performance, architecture, and design choices to mission outcomes
  • Ability to assess and solve problems, and to effectively communicate results through strong verbal and written skills
  • Currently possesses and is able to maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in Operations Research, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field
  • Operational military background with a subsequent transition into an ORSA, M&S, or Operations Analyst position
  • Experience with AFSIM plug-in development or other advanced M&S framework customization
  • Experience with defense systems, autonomous systems, maritime systems, undersea systems, sensors, effectors, communications, navigation, C2, or ISR mission systems
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering, digital engineering, operational test, or experimentation
  • Experience developing KPPs, KSAs, MOEs, MOPs, requirements, test objectives, or system performance assessments
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization tools such as Tableau, or scripting languages like MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Experience building or maturing an organization's M&S capability or tool stack from an early/immature state
  • Experience leading or coordinating M&S efforts across geographically distributed teams
  • 8+ years of experience with the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps
