Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • 3 years of experience leading teams in a technical capacity or leading technical risk analysis in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience in people management.

There's no such thing as a "safe system" - only safer systems. Our Security team works to create and maintain the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you help protect network boundaries, keep computer systems and network devices hardened against attacks and provide security services to protect highly sensitive data like passwords and customer information. Security Engineers work directly with network equipment and actively monitor our systems for attacks and intrusions. You also work with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.
You are a recognized expert in at least two security domains and use your leadership skills to manage a team that sets the direction and goals for solving Google-wide problems. You identify fundamental security problems at Google and drives major security improvements in Google infrastructure.
Enterprise Security Cloud and Off-Google Security Engineers work on a broad set of efforts focusing on defining, measuring, preventing, remediating, and sustaining a healthy cloud security posture. Security Engineers (SEs) also support work to improve Security across our Acquisitions and Other Bet companies.
In this role, you will lead our Cloud Security Controls (CSC) focus area, driving outcomes for key security risk reduction and developer and AI enablement on Cloud programs. This role involves defining new security controls needed and security uplift pathways in partnership with technical leads and ensuring consistent and effective control enforcement across Alphabet's multi-cloud footprint through close collaboration with cross-functional infrastructure and security partners.
Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
US: $207000 - $301000 (USD) 20% bonus target equity benefits

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of engineers focused on securing Alphabet's multi-cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud Platform, Cloud Computing Platform), providing clear goal and strategic direction to drive high-impact outcomes.
  • Work with Team Leads to define and implement the strategy for cloud security controls including building new controls and approaches alongside enforcing them, well-lit paths, and baseline standards that balance developer velocity with security risk mitigation.
  • Drive alignment by partnering within Privacy, Safety, and Security and across and Cloud (Cloud CISO and Product teams) to ensure consistent enforcement of security controls.
  • Oversee proactive uplift strategies to continuously enhance security controls across cloud initiatives and ensure alignment with evolving standards.
