Residential HVAC Installer Location: Columbus, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time
Pay: $20–$25 per hour base + performance commissions (realistic total earnings $34–$40/hr) +

Role Overview As a Residential HVAC Installer, you will handle the complete installation of heating, cooling, and air quality systems in homes. This hands-on position involves reading blueprints, custom ductwork fabrication, system testing, startup procedures, and minor repairs—all while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and customer experience.

Main Duties

  • Install furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless systems, and related equipment according to manufacturer specs and local codes.
  • Measure, cut, fabricate, and install ductwork, fittings, and insulation for optimal airflow and efficiency.
  • Perform thorough system testing, charging, startup, and troubleshooting to ensure peak performance.
  • Keep job sites clean, organized, and safe; complete all required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Interact professionally with homeowners—explain the work being done, answer questions, and confirm satisfaction before leaving.
  • Be available for scheduled overtime or weekend calls when needed to meet customer demands.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 4 years of proven experience installing residential HVAC systems (new construction and retrofit/replacement projects).
  • Current EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal preferred).
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and installation manuals.
  • HVAC trade school or apprenticeship completion strongly preferred.
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, gauges, recovery machines, and basic diagnostic equipment.
  • Solid verbal communication skills and basic computer/tablet proficiency for job logs and invoicing.
  • Detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of working solo or with a helper.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs; occasionally heavier with assistance.
  • Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, and working in tight attics, crawl spaces, or outdoor conditions.
  • Exposure to varying weather, dust, and occasional heights.
