Job description

Job Title: Fleet Manager

Company: Commercial Landscape Maintenance Company

Location: Miami, FL (on-site, with travel to Pompano shop and field sites)

Recruiter: Represented by Bloom Talent Solutions

Position Overview

Bloom Talent Solutions is seeking a Fleet Manager for a growing, multi-location commercial landscape operation based in Miami, FL. This is a newly defined leadership role for a fleet professional who combines hands-on technical depth with strong management instincts. The Fleet Manager will own the company's fleet end-to-end, overseeing 90+ vehicles, 15 pieces of heavy equipment, and hundreds of small-engine assets across two shop locations.

Approximately 30 to 40 percent of the role involves direct technical work alongside the mechanic team. The balance covers team management, vendor oversight, purchasing, asset tracking, and system implementation. The ideal candidate came up as a diesel mechanic, moved into management, and is ready to own a fleet of this scale and complexity.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Manage a team of 4 to 5 mechanics across Miami HQ and Pompano shop locations
  • Set technical standards, troubleshoot complex issues, and provide hands-on diagnostic support
  • Develop the team's skill set across diesel, gas, hydraulic, and two-cycle systems
  • Serve as the single point of contact for branch managers and production leads on all fleet matters

Fleet and Asset Management

  • Oversee 90+ vehicles (Isuzu diesel and gas, Ford F250/F350, Dodge 1500, CDL bucket trucks)
  • Oversee approximately 15 pieces of heavy equipment (Bobcat and John Deere skid steers, excavators, extended reach lifts)
  • Oversee 50 to 60 mowers (primarily Scag) and several hundred small-engine pieces (primarily Stihl)
  • Own the full asset lifecycle from acquisition through disposition

Preventative Maintenance and Repair

  • Build and enforce a preventative maintenance program across trucks, heavy equipment, and small engines
  • Manage all repair triage (in-house vs. outsourced) and quality-control completed work
  • Own blade sharpening, oil changes, fluid programs, and seasonal readiness across all locations
  • Lead diagnostic work directly and coach mechanics through complex repairs

Systems and Process Implementation

  • Lead fleet management migration from Excel to Lytx (telematics, PM scheduling, asset registry)
  • Build out small-engine inventory automation and design a formal maintenance ticket/work-order system
  • Establish SOPs and hold the team and broader business accountable to them

Vendor and Purchasing Management

  • Manage relationships with dealers, parts vendors, fuel vendor, tire shop, and outsourced repair providers
  • Own purchasing responsibility for parts, equipment, and capital purchases
  • Negotiate pricing and terms; identify opportunities to consolidate spend or bring services in-house
  • Manage the fuel program (HQ pump station, field fuel truck, gas cards for outlying crews)

Ideal Candidate Profile

Industry Experience: 8+ years in fleet maintenance with progressive responsibility, including hands-on mechanic work and team leadership in a similar-scale environment (75+ vehicles plus mixed equipment).

Technical Background: Diesel mechanic background required. Comfort with hydraulic systems essential. Two-cycle equipment experience strongly preferred.

Systems-Oriented: Track record implementing or operating a telematics/fleet management platform (Lytx, Samsara, Verizon Connect, Geotab, etc.).

Leadership: Proven ability to manage a mechanic team, set standards, and build accountability across a multi-location operation.

Vendor Management: Strong buyer's mindset on parts, equipment, and outsourced services with experience managing vendor relationships.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of fleet maintenance experience with hands-on mechanic and leadership background
  • Diesel mechanic background required; hydraulic systems experience essential
  • Two-cycle equipment experience strongly preferred
  • Experience managing fleets of 75+ vehicles plus mixed equipment
  • Proficiency with a telematics/fleet management platform required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
  • ASE certifications a plus
  • Lean Six Sigma or similar process credentials a plus
  • Military maintenance background a plus
  • OSHA training a plus

Compensation and Benefits

Base Salary: $90,000 to $110,000, commensurate with experience

Incentives: Bonus structure to be discussed during the interview process

Benefits:

  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Additional benefits to be discussed during the interview process
