Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Blood Bank Medical Technologist to join our dynamic laboratory team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures within the Blood Bank department. The role includes blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and other related tests to ensure the safety and compatibility of blood products for transfusions.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform blood bank testing including ABO/Rh typing, antibody screens, crossmatch, and direct antiglobulin tests (DAT).
  • Process and verify blood products for compatibility with patient requirements.
  • Maintain records of blood bank activities, including test results, inventory, and transfusion history.
  • Adhere to all laboratory protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare and manage blood component inventory and coordinate blood product transfusion processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all clinical, safety, and accreditation standards (e.g., AABB, CAP, CLIA).
  • Participate in blood bank inventory management, ordering supplies, and ensuring stock levels meet hospital needs.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to support patient care.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide timely testing and results.
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance and proficiency testing.
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new laboratory staff and students.

Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
    • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent certification required.
  • Experience:
    • At least 1–2 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory, with specific experience in blood banking preferred.
