Job description

NAXO is an blockchain investigations and digital forensics firm trusted by top law firms, corporations, and law enforcement agencies for their most technically complex cases. Our experts have distinguished law enforcement backgrounds, deep technical expertise, and a track record of investigating the most complex crypto and cyber matters since the advent of blockchain technology. The nature of our work ranges from analyzing complex blockchain transaction activity and its underlying technology to investigating criminal activity on the dark web.
We are looking for a blockchain expert who will be responsible for conducting complex investigations and serving as an expert witness in support of ongoing litigation. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency ecosystem, as well as experience analyzing blockchain-related software such as smart contracts and decentralized finance protocols. The candidate must also be able to precisely identify, analyze, and synthesize relevant information from various sources to support investigations. The ideal candidate will also have a strong technical background and expertise in a related field, such as cybersecurity or economics.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct cryptocurrency investigations, including tracing blockchain transactions, mapping flows of funds, analyzing smart contracts, and conducting open-source intelligence research.
  • Create reports and other materials to summarize findings and support investigative efforts.
  • Serve as an expert witness in support of ongoing litigation, including providing deposition or courtroom testimony.
  • Collaborate with other members of the investigative team to support ongoing investigations.
  • Develop client relationships by leveraging existing contacts, attending conferences, and/or publishing relevant articles.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., computer science, cybersecurity, or finance).
  • At least five years of experience in cryptocurrency investigations or a related field.
  • Experience using a programming language to accomplish investigative goals (e.g. Python).
  • Fundamental understanding of blockchain technology and the cryptocurrency ecosystem, including knowledge of various blockchain networks, cryptocurrencies, and exchanges.
  • Hands-on experience using COTS tools, such as Chainalysis, Elliptic, and/or TRM Labs, to conduct cryptocurrency investigations.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information from multiple sources.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience serving as an expert witness in litigation.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in a related field.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks related to cryptocurrency and cybersecurity investigations.
  • Data science experience, including exposure to programming languages used to understand and synthesize large data sets.
  • Familiarity with software application and/or platform development and, ideally, experience analyzing source code.
  • Experience working in a law enforcement or intelligence agency.

The pay range for this role is:
170,000 - 250,000 USD per year (NAXO NY)
150,000 - 250,000 USD per year (Remote (United States))
