Building Inspector

Reports To: Regional Codes Manager

Position Overview

As a Building Inspector for Bunnell Lammons Engineering (BLE), you will serve as a key field representative responsible for ensuring construction activities comply with approved plans, applicable codes, and local ordinances. Working under the direction of the Group Leader for the Codes and Education group, you will perform inspections across all phases of residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects. You will evaluate structures for compliance with the International Building Code (IBC), International Residential Code (IRC), and other adopted standards, while documenting findings in detailed inspection reports. Your role is critical in maintaining the safety, structural integrity, and code compliance of buildings throughout the assigned projects.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction, deep knowledge of building codes, and exceptional communication and customer service skills. You should be highly organized, comfortable with field technology, and able to confidently make code-based determinations in a fast-paced environment

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • High School Diploma or General Education (GED)
  • 2-5 years of experience demonstrating knowledge of construction.
  • Represent BLE in a professional manner with the public, developers, and internal staff
  • Perform field inspections of building sites for compliance with approved plans and applicable building codes (e.g., IBC, IRC, IECC, and local amendments)
  • Inspect structural framing, foundations, roofing, insulation, weather barriers, fire-resistive assemblies, accessibility components, and final building finishes
  • Maintain current knowledge of building codes, local ordinances, and construction best practices
  • Test and verify life safety systems (e.g., egress, alarms, firestopping, means of escape) when applicable
  • Valid Driver's License with Clean Motor Vehicle Driving history (3 years)
  • Ability to work outdoors on a construction site in all seasons and weather conditions for extended periods of time, and during regular construction hours, including early AM concrete placements.
  • You must be self-motivated, able to efficiently work independently while completing scheduled tasks.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with team members, BLE leadership, clients, local, state, and federal authorities of all levels.
  • Must be detail oriented and work in a time conscious and time effective manner.
  • Basic knowledge in the operation of smartphones and computers for communication and record keeping (MS Office applications Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend, lift (70-85 pounds),& walk on unstable, unpaved ground.
