Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of Electrical and Automation, the Controls Engineer will work as an integral part of the team to design highly automated blast cleaning equipment used across North America. A successful candidate will participate in machine development from concept through customer startup working in a highly skilled cross functional team including sales, applications, engineering, manufacturing, and field service.

The Controls Engineer will also be responsible for providing lifecycle support including upgrades, obsolescence planning, remote diagnostics, software revisions, and overall customer support for PLC based Machinery Control Systems.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Design and Detail assigned projects, in collaboration with engineering, and shop needs.
  • Submit drawings to lead engineers and/or team leads for review prior to release.
  • Maintain BOM and part information within the ERP system.
  • Detail in accordance with BCT drawing guidelines and SOPs.
  • Develop drawings for ease of assembly and installation.
  • Program PLC and HMIs to BCT programming guidelines and SOP’s – includes shop testing.
  • Support development of digital twins using FactoryTalk Optix and Emulate3D.
  • Support and participate in virtual machine commissioning’s.
  • Approximately 20% travel to jobsites to support commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Hold self-accountable to meeting timelines for production releases.
  • Assist in communication and documentation of daily project status and release dates.
  • Helps drive and support BCT’s Culture and Core Values.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks Electrical or Equivalent 2D software.
  • Proficiency in Rockwell Studio 5000 or Siemens TIA Portal PLC software.
  • Proficiency in Rockwell FactoryTalk View or Siemens TIA Portal HMI software.
  • Proficiency in FactoryTalk Optix (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Industrial Networking (preferred).
  • Experience in Robotics Integration, Vision System, RFID Integration (preferred).
  • Experience in Emulate3D (preferred).
  • Ability to prioritize workload and meet company objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal & written skills with desire to be an active team member.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills; MS Office.

Education and Experience

  • Requires associate or bachelor’s degree with 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Panel design and build experience (preferred.
  • UL experience (UL508A certification preferred).
  • Experience maintaining bill of materials and part information using an ERP system.
