DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The UCSC Office of Risk Services and Occupational Health supports the campus community by identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks that could impact the institution's faculty, staff, students, operations, assets and reputation. The department recommends strategies to reduce or eliminate risks, and administers the university's insurance programs to facilitate maximum recovery from accidental losses.
The UCSC Risk Services and Occupational Health Office advises the campus community through an enterprise risk management framework to provide a holistic approach to institutional risks. By strategically managing risk we can strengthen the campus safety culture, protect the campus community and support the university's mission by minimizing potential losses and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies.

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Risk Services and Occupational Health, the Threat Assessment BIT (Behavioral Intervention Team) Coordinator supports and coordinates the campus Behavioral Intervention Team's threat assessment and intervention efforts. The coordinator manages an efficient process for the collection and tracking of critical information that will be provided to the BIT for deliberations and action planning. The position is responsible for supporting multidisciplinary case management, coordinating communication across campus partners, and referring individuals to appropriate services.
The Threat Assessment BIT Coordinator contributes to the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of threat assessment processes, including documentation standards, communication protocols, and response procedures. The Threat Assessment BIT Coordinator evaluates program effectiveness, supports policy and procedure development, conducts outreach and training, and builds collaborative relationships across academic, administrative, and public safety units to enhance the University's capacity to prevent and respond to potential threats of violence risks.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $71,600 - $85,550/annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES
70% - Case Coordination
- Review and Triage BIT Referrals and BIT Reports of concern.
- Coordinate the initial BIT response through data collection, intake, risk screening, and consultation with team members and subject matter experts.
- Conduct comprehensive case coordination, including developing case management plans, tracking action items, and ensuring timely follow-up.
- Collaborate with key campus partners to assess and provide support to respond to potential threats of violence.
- Facilitate communication among BIT members and campus stakeholders, including urgent notifications, ad hoc meetings, and ongoing case updates.
- Coordinate with internal and external subject matter experts to support case analysis, threat assessment, and intervention strategies.
- Maintain proactive, ongoing communication with departments regarding behaviors of concern, ensuring appropriate follow-up and continuity of care.
- Schedule and coordinate interviews and meetings with involved parties and department representatives, as appropriate.
- Monitor case progress and support ongoing evaluation of individuals of concern based on established risk levels and intervention plans.
- Document all case-related activities, including intake, communications, decisions, and outcomes, in a secure and confidential database.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records, including meeting minutes, activity logs, and documentation of notifications, in compliance with legal, regulatory, and UC policy requirements.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and retention of sensitive information, maintaining strict confidentiality and privacy protections.
- Utilize database and reporting systems to track case activity, support compliance (e.g., Workplace Violence Prevention policies), and generate reports.
- Serve as a liaison to campus departments by providing guidance on BIT processes, reporting protocols, and response procedures.
- Prioritizes new cases for BIT and Ad Hoc meetings.
- Complete an Intake form for each new case and enter it into the secure database.
- Emails or texts the BIT to notify of urgent changes in case status or to arrange ad hoc meetings.
- Follows up on action items from meetings.
- Coordinates and enlists external resources and experts for case analysis and management.
30% - Program Management, Research, and Training
- Research, monitor, and analyze relevant laws, regulations, UC policies, and emerging best practices related to behavioral threat assessment and workplace violence prevention.
- Evaluate and continuous improvement of BIT processes, including case coordination workflows, communication protocols, and response procedures.
- Develop, implement, and maintain systems for case tracking, documentation, and data management, including secure database oversight.
- Conduct post-case and programmatic analysis to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for process and program enhancements.
- Prepare complex reports, briefings, and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and program development.
- Support the development, implementation, and assessment of workplace violence prevention policies and coordinated response systems.
- Assist with risk analysis, program development, and strategic initiatives related to violence prevention and behavioral threat management.
- Develop educational materials and outreach strategies to promote awareness and reporting of behaviors of concern.
- Collaborates with campus partners to identify training needs, target audiences, and appropriate content for prevention and intervention efforts.
- Build and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support data sharing, coordination, and program effectiveness.
- Manages multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and alignment with organizational goals.
- Ensure all program activities, records, and reporting practices comply with confidentiality, privacy laws, and record retention requirements.
- Provides support of management of program development with risk analysis and research coordination.
- Develops and coordinates risk programming and analysis.
- Develops and implements campus education and outreach programs in coordination with BIT related to violence prevention, as applicable.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience and/or training.
- Demonstrated experience with workplace violence prevention or threat assessment programs.
- Experience, or demonstrated skill in designing, developing, and conducting effective workplace violence awareness trainings.
- Thorough knowledge of the threat assessment profession, insurance, and/or risk assessment.
- Knowledge of best practices and methodologies for gathering and analyzing information and writing reports.
- Demonstrated skills in analyzing, researching, and synthesizing large amounts of data for preparing sound and relevant proposals / analyses.
- Proficient skill in the use of software applications such as MS suite, Google suite, social media platforms, and behavioral intervention software.
- Demonstrated skills in attention to detail.
- Strong verbal communication skills required to present information in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong writing skills necessary to compose and deliver program materials, which are logical, concise, grammatically correct and accurate.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as part of a university-wide community.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes and work calmly under pressure while maintaining excellent working relationships and managing multiple investigations and deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically to gather and organize information, conduct analysis, and make recommendations on issues that are complex.
- Ability to coordinate resources during and after potential threats of violence situations and respond quickly as incidents unfold.
- Ability to exercise good judgment. Demonstrate a high level of integrity and professionalism, with a demonstrated strong commitment to ethical decision-making in all aspects of work.
- Ability to handle issues that are confidential and time-sensitive with tact, sensitivity, and discretion. Demonstrated ability to use discretion to keep appropriate records and maintain the confidentiality of all reports in accordance with UC policy and applicable laws and policies related to privacy and record retention.
- Ability to coordinate workplace violence threat assessments. Ability to track crisis response activities and coordinate an effective and appropriate response.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated understanding of the challenges faced by higher education organizations and/or other organizations addressing the threat of violence.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
