Biotechnology Research Scientist

  • Location: Adelphi, Maryland
  • Security Clearance: Active Clearance or Eligible to Obtain - U.S. citizenship required
  • Salary: $70,000 - $90,000 Depending on Experience and Education
  • Travel: 5%

Position Summary

SURVICE Engineering is currently seeking a Biotechnology Research Scientist to support our Aberdeen Research Operation. You will accelerate your career and become an integral team member within the defense community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform culture and maintenance of BSL-1 (Biosafety Level 1) microorganism laboratory cultures, including bacterial, fungal, algal, and protist cultures.
  • Execute protocols for the genetic engineering and characterization of microorganisms. Plan and execute workflows for DNA extractions, purification, analysis, assembly, chassis/host cell transformation, selection, and phenotype characterization.
  • Assist in the design and lead execution of experiments within monitoring growth conditions of microbial organisms and determining microbial activity. Experiments may use microscopy, fluorescence analysis via multi-well plate reader, enzymatic/molecular assays, and/or simple programming of control software.
  • Design and execute biotechnology and synthetic biology experiments in support of the Synthetic Biology Tools branch.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment/supplies.
  • Schedule and execute experimental protocols.
  • Ensure the quality of procedures and data.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and present presentations and written documents summarizing efforts

Minimum Qualifications of Biotechnology Research Scientist
Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences and 1+ years of relevant experience. Exceptional candidates with less experience will be considered. Candidates are not required to possess all qualifications; if you possess some of the desired qualifications, please apply.

  • Knowledge of synthetic biology or biotechnology or related field
  • Knowledge of microbiology as applied to non-medical biotechnology defense research
  • Experience designing and executing synthetic biology or biotechnology experiment in microorganisms.
  • Understanding of basic molecular techniques
