Biotech Strategy Internship information

What is a biotech strategy internship?

A Biotech Strategy Internship is a temporary position designed for students or recent graduates interested in the business and strategic side of biotechnology companies. Interns in this role typically work on market analysis, competitive research, business development, and strategic planning projects. They gain exposure to how biotech firms make decisions about product development, partnerships, investments, and commercialization. The internship provides valuable industry insights and helps interns build skills relevant to careers in biotech consulting, management, or corporate strategy.

What types of projects might I work on during a biotech strategy internship, and how much exposure will I have to senior leadership?

During a Biotech Strategy Internship, you can expect to work on projects such as market landscape analyses, competitive intelligence, pipeline evaluations, and supporting the development of strategic recommendations for product launches or partnerships. Interns often collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, marketing, and business development. Many biotech companies foster an open environment where interns have opportunities to present their findings to senior leadership, gaining valuable feedback and insight. This exposure is not only great for professional growth but also provides a deeper understanding of how strategic decisions are made in the industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a biotech strategy intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Biotech Strategy Intern, you generally need a background in life sciences or business, strong analytical abilities, and familiarity with biotechnology concepts. Experience with data analysis tools (such as Excel or Tableau), research databases, and sometimes financial modeling software is typically required. Exceptional communication, problem-solving skills, and adaptability help interns stand out in collaborative and constantly evolving environments. These skills are crucial for effectively supporting strategic decisions, analyzing market opportunities, and contributing to the company's growth in a competitive biotech landscape.

About Us

POLITICO illuminates the forces shaping global power. Since 2007, we have delivered intelligence that anticipates tomorrow's headlines, not reports on yesterday's news. As politics has increasingly become the defining force of our era, our work has never been more vital. Cabinet secretaries and Ministers start their mornings with our analysis. CEOs shape strategy around our reporting. Advocacy leaders rely on our insights to move policy. We deliver the straightforward facts and clear-eyed analysis they need to navigate the most complex political landscape of our lifetimes. Our 1,100+ publishing professionals across the world's key democratic capitals—Washington, Brussels, London, Paris, Berlin, Sacramento, and New York—form the world's premier politics and policy newsroom. We tell the story of how power really works by explaining who wields it and how they plan to exercise it, connecting dots others miss and delivering scoops from sources others don't even know exist. Innovation has always been a core tenet of our story. At launch, we bet that depth would trump scale, that talent would trump traffic, and that politics would become central to modern life. In 2011, we made another bet and launched POLITICO Pro to help decision-makers understand the business of government, transforming both how they shape government action and the business of journalism itself. These bets made POLITICO the most successful digital news startup of its generation and the indispensable resource for leaders who shape the future. Today, we are a rarity in media: a growing, profitable, and sustainable news organization. POLITICO is a subsidiary of Axel Springer SE, a family-owned transatlantic media company headquartered in Berlin and New York. Axel Springer is dedicated to shaping the future of journalism in the free world, believing that a free and informed society is essential to democracy. The company’s guiding principles—first articulated as The Essentials by founder Axel Springer in the aftermath of World WarII—remain a cornerstone of the company’s foundation today.
