Biotech Startup information

What is a biotech startup?

A Biotech Startup job involves working in an early-stage company that develops innovative biological or medical technologies. Roles can vary widely, including research, product development, regulatory affairs, and business operations. Employees often wear multiple hats, contributing to both scientific advancements and business growth. The fast-paced environment requires adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a passion for innovation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a biotech startup?

To thrive at a biotech startup, you need a strong background in life sciences or bioengineering, paired with an entrepreneurial mindset and practical research experience. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, data analysis software, and, in many cases, regulatory compliance certifications like GLP or GMP are vital. Exceptional adaptability, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork skills are also crucial in this fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. These competencies help ensure innovation, rapid iteration, and successful navigation of the complex challenges faced by emerging biotech companies.

What are some unique challenges of working at a biotech startup compared to larger organizations?

Working at a biotech startup often means taking on a wide variety of responsibilities, as teams are usually small and roles can be less narrowly defined than at established companies. You may regularly transition between lab research, project management, and business development tasks, which can be both challenging and rewarding. Limited resources, tight deadlines, and the pressure to rapidly produce results are common, but these challenges also provide opportunities for accelerated learning and career advancement. Many employees find the collaborative, innovative atmosphere and the ability to make a tangible impact particularly fulfilling in this setting.

Job description

Client Partner - Commercial / Strategic Accounts (CRO)

Following our successful expansion into the U.S. and continued growth across Europe, we are seeking a Client Partner - Commercial / Strategic Accounts (CRO) to help drive our commercial function from one of our international hubs (Barcelona, New York or Austin).

This person will play a critical role in owning strategic relationships with pharmaceutical companies and partners with our CRO-focused Sales Director to win and grow key accounts. They bring deep CRO domain knowledge and credibility, acting as a peer-level advisor to operational and executive stakeholders on how to modernize clinical trial design using Biorce's AI platform (Aika).

Who We're Looking For:

A pharma insider who has crossed over to the client-facing side. Someone with deep operational or development experience inside pharmaceutical companies, who can walk into a conversation with a Head of Clinical Development or a CDO and be taken seriously from the first sentence. This person should be able to translate complex AI capabilities into tangible R&D value and build the kind of long-term relationships that drive multi-country adoption.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as industry expert and trusted advisor for CRO prospects and clients, from mid-size to global CROs.
  • Partner 1:1 with the CRO sales lead on target account strategy, discovery, solution shaping, and closing.
  • Lead peer-level discussions with BD leaders, project operations, feasibility, and clinical operations to map Biorce to real CRO workflows.
  • Translate CRO business models, bidding processes, and study startup realities into compelling value propositions and ROI cases.
  • Support RFPs, proposals, and orals by owning the "how this works in a CRO" narrative and client-specific tailoring.
  • Capture and feed CRO market, competitive, and customer insights back into product, marketing, and leadership.
  • Help design and refine playbooks, case studies, and talk tracks for the CRO vertical.

Requirements

Must-haves:

  • 7+ years in a CRO environment (e.g., business development, clinical operations, project management, feasibility, or strategic partnering).
  • Direct experience working with biotech and pharma sponsors and understanding of how CROs are evaluated and selected.
  • Strong credibility with CRO stakeholders; comfortable leading senior-level conversations.
  • Solid understanding of clinical trial lifecycle, outsourcing models, and portfolio / pipeline dynamics.
  • Excellent communication skills in English; Barcelona candidates must speak English at a native-level.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience in SaaS, data, or technology-enabled services for clinical trials is a plus
  • Familiarity with AI-driven platforms in a clinical or drug development context

What We Offer

  • Opportunity to shape the future of a fast-growing AI healthtech company entering the U.S. market.
  • Opportunity to grow into broader strategic role as Biorce expands.
  • US (New York / Austin): $200,000 - $225,000
  • EU (Barcelona): €175,000 - €200,000

Final compensation depends on experience, skills, and location. The ranges above reflect our good-faith estimate at the time of posting, in line with Labor Law and similar pay transparency regulations.
