Job Scope

The Laboratory Technician I will support sample testing activities within the Clinical Affairs department. This role performs routine and non-routine laboratory testing on biological specimens, conducts nucleic acid extraction and molecular assays, and ensures accurate documentation of testing activities. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and passionate about delivering high-quality laboratory results in a regulated clinical environment. 

This position operates within a Biosafety Level II (BSL-2) laboratory and works with human biological specimens and molecular testing workflows. 

Duties and Responsibilites

  • Perform routine and non-routine laboratory testing according to established protocols and procedures. 

  • Conduct specimen receipt, handling, processing, nucleic acid extraction, and molecular testing activities. 

  • Accurately record, analyze, and document experimental and testing data in accordance with company quality standards. 

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely laboratory records and documentation. 

  • Troubleshoot assay, instrument, and workflow issues, escalating concerns when appropriate. 

  • Adapt to changing testing priorities while maintaining quality and productivity expectations. 

  • Follow all laboratory safety practices, quality system requirements, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). 

  • Assist with laboratory inventory management, equipment maintenance, and organization of laboratory workspaces. 

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency and data quality. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related scientific discipline. 

    Experience Qualifications 

    • Minimum 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology, biotechnology, clinical laboratory testing, or a related laboratory environment. 

    • Experience with specimen handling, sample processing, and laboratory documentation. 

    • Familiarity with molecular biology techniques, including PCR and nucleic acid extraction. 

    Preferred Qualifications 

    • Experience working in a regulated clinical, medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology environment. 

    • Experience performing molecular diagnostic testing. 

    • Familiarity with quality systems, SOPs, and Good Documentation Practices (GDP). 

    • Experience working with biological specimens in a BSL-2 laboratory setting.

  • Strong laboratory technique and attention to detail. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment. 

  • Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills. 

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
