What is a Biotech AI Internship?

A Biotech AI Internship is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience applying artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to problems in biotechnology. Interns might work on projects such as analyzing biological data, developing algorithms for drug discovery, or creating predictive models for genomics research. These internships help build practical skills at the intersection of biology and computer science, often under the guidance of experienced researchers or engineers. The experience can be valuable for future careers in biotech, pharmaceuticals, or data science.

What is the difference between Biotech Ai Internship vs Biotech Data Analyst?

AspectBiotech Ai InternshipBiotech Data Analyst
Required CredentialsRelevant coursework, internships, or certifications in biotech or AIDegree in biology, biotech, data science, or related field; experience with data analysis tools
Work EnvironmentResearch labs, biotech companies, AI development teamsData-focused roles in biotech firms, research institutions, or healthcare companies
Employer & Industry UsageInternship programs in biotech and AI companiesFull-time or contract roles in biotech, healthcare, or research sectors

Biotech Ai Internships typically focus on gaining hands-on experience in biotech and AI projects, often as part of an educational program. Biotech Data Analysts, on the other hand, analyze complex biological data to support research and development. While both roles require knowledge of biotech, internships are more entry-level and educational, whereas data analyst roles are more specialized and may require prior experience or a degree.

What types of projects do Biotech AI interns typically work on, and how do they contribute to larger research goals?

Biotech AI interns often engage in projects such as developing machine learning models to analyze biological data, automating data pipelines for genomics or drug discovery, and collaborating with researchers to interpret results. These projects are usually part of multidisciplinary teams where interns apply their coding and analytical skills to support ongoing research or product development. Interns are encouraged to present their findings, contribute to publications, and gain exposure to the broader impact of AI in biotechnology. This hands-on experience not only builds technical expertise but also strengthens teamwork and communication skills essential for career advancement in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Biotech AI Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Biotech AI Intern, you need a solid background in biology or biotechnology, foundational programming skills (such as Python or R), and familiarity with statistical analysis. Experience with bioinformatics tools, machine learning frameworks (like TensorFlow or Scikit-learn), and data visualization software is highly valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and translate complex data into actionable insights. These competencies are crucial for leveraging AI to address biological challenges and accelerate innovation in the biotech industry.

Job description

Description

CSBio is a peptide contract manufacturing founded in 1993. Our initial products were a complete line of automated synthesizers for manufacturing and process development, with a focus on cGMP production. In 1994, we opened our custom peptide facility and began producing high quality compounds for research organizations and pharmaceutical companies worldwide. In 2004, we opened our peptide production facility in Menlo Park, CA and in 2014, we expanded our production capability through the addition of a new, state of the art building dedicated to cGMP peptide production. In 2017, we passed a FDA inspection and were recommended to be approved for commercial drug substance manufacturing. In 2023, we added additional cGMP clinical production capacity in Milpitas, CA.

Position Summary

Are you a software engineering self-starter that can figure things out and is interested in building out and implementing AI relevant tools into an operational workflow?

CSBio is a leading biotech company in the peptide industry, and for over 30 years has been providing pharmaceutical instrumentation to biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic researchers.

We are looking for a highly motivated AI Software Engineering Intern to help build and expand our internal AI tool used for inventory management, purchasing optimization, and manufacturing decision support. This role is ideal for a recent BS graduate who is resourceful, independent, and excited to build full-stack AI features with minimal guidance.

You will be working directly with leadership and internal stakeholders. We need someone who can learn fast, troubleshoot on their own, and embrace a โ€œvibe codingโ€ approach: figuring things out through exploration, iteration, and creative problem-solving.

Only local candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering and can commit to a full time on-site role for 3 months will be considered. This is a fully onsite role, 5 days in office at our Menlo Park OR Milpitas Location.

Job responsibilities include the following:

  • Work with leadership and internal stakeholders to refine requirements and translate ambiguous goals into working code. Refining requirements and understanding exactly how the data structure is used out of our manufacturing system and API will be critical.
  • Build new features for our internal AI platform using Python, Streamlit, Claude Code, and Codex.
  • Integrate, debug, and optimize data workflows using the MISys Manufacturing REST API and our Bronzeโ€“Silverโ€“Gold data architecture.
  • Develop clean, functional pages for inventory visibility, purchasing logic, and AI-generated insights.
  • Troubleshoot issues end-to-endโ€”including data extraction, caching, errors, and deploymentโ€”independently.
  • Iterate rapidly: quickly prototype ideas, test, refine, and ship features.
Why This Role

If you want an internship where you build real software, operate independently, and ship features that impact manufacturing operations immediately, this is it. Youโ€™ll learn how to combine AI, data engineering, and real-world operations into a production tool that the company uses every day.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
  • Comfortable working solo in a fast-moving, ambiguity-heavy environment.
  • Ability to self-teach, experiment, vibe code, and โ€œfigure it outโ€ without step-by-step instructions. This work is to build out an internal tool and not to work on our product, as such there will be no internal software engineering team to support you.
  • Nice to haves:
  • Python skills and familiarity with web app development (Streamlit preferred).
  • Experience working with APIs, JSON, and data manipulation in Python.
  • Experience with OpenAI API or other LLM/AI tools
  • Exposure to manufacturing, ERP/MRP systems, or supply chain systems

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (Kaiser HMO or BlueShield PPO. Employer pays 90% for Employee and 75% for Employeeโ€™s family; Dental: Aetna Dental, Delta Dental, Guardian Dental, MetLife Dental. Vision: VSP and Aetna EyeMed)
  • 401k 10% 1:1 match
  • PTO policy. 10 days PTO
  • Companywide paid holiday during: Week of July 4, Thanksgiving (2 days), Week of December 25Basic life ($20,000 paid by company) and supplemental life insurance (optional supplemental).
  • Disability insurance 50% standard employer paid.
  • Carpool, clean air vehicle, and cell phone reimbursement
  • Employee rewards and recognition program
  • Company organized social events
  • Quarterly sponsored team building activities
