Job description

Oxford Biotherapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company focusing on the development of antibody therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. OBT's OGAP-verify® platform is the world's largest, cancer specific, membrane protein library, directly measuring plasma membrane protein expression in patient tumors. OGAP is used to identify novel, highly tumor specific antigens for novel first-in-class ADC, T-cell Engager (TCE) and Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR-T) targets. Our lead asset, OBT076, is an Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) in Phase 1b clinical development. Our clinical and pre-clinical pipeline of novel biologics is balanced between internal programs, focused on ADCs and checkpoint regulators, and externally partnered programs with key innovators in oncology such as Roche, GSK and Zymeworks.
Job Description
We are seeking a Finance & Accounting Manager to join our Finance team at our San Jose, CA site. The appropriate candidate will be expected to manage the day-to-day finance and accounting operations of the US subsidiary. This role will support the US Operations and the Senior Director of Finance (based in the UK). The majority of the responsibilities will be focused on account management, and associated documentation, management and forecasting of resources for collaboration deals.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., IFRS, US GAAP) and relevant financial regulations
  • Manage the US financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely provision of information to the Financial Controller
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with company policies, internal controls, financial reporting and other key processes.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of internal controls and highlight corrective actions as needed.
  • Analyze US resource management and provide monthly forecast requirements for collaborations
  • Prepare US payrolls, liaising with relevant payroll bureaus and HR
  • Liaise with external tax consultants to ensure compliance with tax requirements
  • Prepare and update a rolling 12-month forecast and plan cashflow, PL and Balance sheet for review by Senior Director of Finance
  • Prepare and manage all additional Payroll and Sales tax requirements ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and filings.
  • Liaise with the company secretarial company to ensure all filings are up to date
  • Integrate financial data from other departments to build accurate financial projections

Required Qualifications and Skills:
  • Qualified CPA, ACA or ACCA
  • Experience of working successfully in an SME biotech environment
  • Experience of working in a highly professional business environment
  • Highly organized
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Highly numerate and customer centric, with a focus on understanding the financial needs of each team to support operational decision making
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with outsourced payroll providers

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • Over 2 years experience in similar role
  • Experience of working in the Biotech sector or similar fast-moving environments
  • Experience with NetSuite
