Job Description
Major Accountabilities
  • Perform general to advanced Metrology repairs/troubleshooting/preventive maintenance (PM) to all plant equipment/systems, not to exclude test standards, process measurement and control, utility, laboratory, and benchtop instrumentation.
  • Responsible for the calibration, troubleshooting and repair, and preventive maintenance to include process measurement and control and utility instrumentation as well as general laboratory instrumentation.
  • Rebuild control valves, actuators and positioners, and switching devices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and pneumatic control circuits.
  • Perform electronic maintenance for pressure, temperature, flow weight, pH, DO, and other critical process parameter-measuring devices.
  • Use equipment manuals and drawings to troubleshoot problems.
  • Perform troubleshooting on a wide variety of equipment and related process problems together with the manufacturing departments or other departments.
  • Maintain frequent communication with manufacturing personnel to be aware of their priorities and to communicate equipment repair status.
  • Support analysis of equipment breakdowns (failure analysis) to determine root cause and make recommendations to eliminate future breakdowns; participate on FEMA teams and other process improvement teams as required (OPEX).
  • Locate spare parts as needed; make recommendations for inventory stock levels.
  • Document all work on work orders, calibration datasheets, and other required forms as necessary.
  • Support project engineering with design/installation/validation of new plant systems not to exclude facility/process/laboratory/utility systems.
  • Assume lead role for Metrology department function on large projects to include coordination, tracking, reporting updates, meetings, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of plant equipment systems; able to operate components and complete systems without assistance.
  • Use root cause failure analysis tools for equipment reliability.
  • Develop and formalize written instruction for preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and SOPs including charts, graphs, and data records in final document format using Word, Excel, and other document generation packages/databases as necessary.
  • Assist with planning equipment/system shutdowns for maintenance/calibration.
  • Recommend and implement system modifications/upgrades to improve system efficiency/performance/safety.
  • General to advanced repair/troubleshooting and PM of automation systems not to exclude DCS/BMS/PLC systems; interpret automation configuration operation errors; able to operate, isolate, and troubleshoot systems using automated interfaces; perform loop checks.
  • Cross-train Metrology technicians as required.
  • Support plant operations during off-hours if needed.
  • Adhere to all safety requirements and follow safe procedures, immediately notifying management or Safety when unsafe conditions or potential hazards are found; attend all required safety and health training.
  • Support cGMP standards as required.

Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
  • Previous electronics or electrical experience
  • Prior apprenticeship, technical college, or military experience is a plus.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
  • HS and 10+ years of industry experience or equivalent

Physical Demands & Working Environment:
  • Will work in environment which may necessitate respiratory protection.
  • May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program.

  • Ability to inspect or perform a task with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc. Yes

  • Ability to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include writs, hands and/or fingers.

  • Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18" to 60" in height, and use twisting motions.
  • Will work in warm/cold environments - 5°C to 35°C Range (Also, infrequent entry into walk in -20°C freezer rooms with a cold suit)
  • Will work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
  • Will work in small and/or enclosed spaces.
  • Will work in heights greater than 4 feet.
