Job Description:
The Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Division (BIDS), hosted within the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) and closely affiliated with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), engages in a wide variety of informatics research and service across the University of Florida. Service initiatives include building out the informatics infrastructure for the CTSI, the OneFlorida+ Research Network, the University of Florida Health Cancer Institute (UFHCI) among others. BMI is responsible for building out and maintaining the software, infrastructure, and data management processes required to support all of these entities.
This position will serve as an Application Programmer II and will work in collaboration with technical leadership to fulfill the research and service missions of the BMI program, and in support of the Cancer Informatics Shared Resources program, supported by the UFHCI. In particular, the incumbent will be primarily responsible for web application and digital health application (e.g., mobile apps) development. The incumbent will participate in both the development of these digital health applications, and the development of the data collection processes from these applications. The incumbent will also participate in other development work, especially those related to data and research infrastructure. In addition, the incumbent will be responsible for the analysis and project reporting through data summarization and visualization, as well as contributions to analysis, modeling and interpretation of results. The incumbent will work closely with project teams and stakeholders to develop tools and processes for effective data management and analysis, metrics collection and reporting, and dissemination of required information to program leadership and stakeholders.
Duties:
  • Develop and create novel software and tools that meet research needs.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team of informaticists, software developers, information and data quality experts, statisticians, and researchers during the software development processes.
  • Develop software packages for data management and data analysis, metrics collection and reporting, and data visualization.
  • Data management related to research projects. Assist with management of workflow of incoming data requests and other processes around the management, transform, analysis, etc. of data.
  • Recommend and assist with development of workflow and process changes to enhance efficiency of tracking and delivery.
  • Contribute to communication of requests and results delivery. Assist with management of data governance around data sets.
  • Work with leadership and stakeholders to design, implement, and report research and evaluation studies.
  • Contribute to scientific reports, conference papers and journal articles are expected, including
    documentation of method, presentation of data, and participation in interpretation of results.

Expected Salary:
$75,000 - $81,000
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred:
MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, or related field. At least 3 years of experience in a software development position preferred. Familiar with API design, preferably RESTful or similar. Familiar with data management and data analysis software and tools. Excellent formal and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of
audiences such as faculty members, PIs, center directors, study coordinators, and IT personnel.
  • Python and Javascript or similar language experience
  • Build and maintain continuous integration and deployment pipelines
  • Linux/Unix experience
  • Automate manual release processes and manage containerized workloads using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Set up logging, metrics, and alerting systems while enforcing security best practices.
  • SQL (MSSQL, MySQL, etc) experience
  • Familiarity with data management and statistical software, e.g. Python, R, and SAS
  • Healthcare research experience preferred, but not required
