Job Description

The Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking a temporary, hourly Research Technician to join a biomedical research laboratory. This role supports research focused on understanding the mechanistic basis of neurovascular coupling in both health and disease, contributing to ongoing studies and laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

Laboratory administration support

  • Manage lab inventory and ordering of supplies

  • Assist with regulatory compliance (e.g., biosafety, IACUC)

  • Maintain lab documentation, SOPs, and training records

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new lab members

Animal colony management

  • Maintain and organize mouse breeding colonies

  • Performing weaning, sexing, and genotyping of transgenic lines

  • Conduct ear notching and tissue collection for genotyping

  • Coordinate sample submission for third-party genetic analysis

  • Perform euthanasia and tissue harvesting in accordance with approved IACUC protocols

Experimental Support

  • Assist with in vivo and ex vivo experiments

  • Support data collection, entry, and basic statistical analysis

Required Qualifications

  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills

  • Willingness to learn new techniques and work with animals

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience with small animal handling or surgical techniques

  • Experience with dissection, microinjections

  • Familiarity with microscopy
