Biomedical Equipment Technician - Competition #2026-731

Position Status: Regular, Full-time (1.0 FTE)

EFW Radiology is currently seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to join our team and contribute to our mission of providing exceptional patient care!

The Role:

The Biomedical Equipment Technician is responsible for for equipment and ancillary equipment testing and repair across assigned modalities, ensuring that all equipment is adequately maintained and in safe working condition in compliance with Health Canada Safety Codes and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Code requirements. The individual also performs administrative tasks related to the equipment, documentation and/or quality management projects.

The ideal candidate would have at least 1+ years of Biomedical Equipment experience and new grads are encouraged to apply!

Reporting to: Quality Management Manager

Role Overview:

  • Responsible for performance and quality control testing of EFW equipment used directly for patient examinations across specified modalities. This includes preventive maintenance, repair management, parts ordering, and equipment decommissioning as required.
  • Conducts scheduled performance testing in accordance with approved maintenance programs, ensuring testing is completed on time and accurately documented through service report tracking.
  • Performs routine and periodic equipment testing, including semi-annual X-ray performance testing (kVp accuracy, mAs linearity, timer accuracy, etc.), standard interval testing of ancillary equipment, and annual testing of protective lead aprons and gloves, including measurement, repair, or replacement as needed.
  • Perform ultrasound probe QC and condition verification (e.g., image uniformity checks, dropout/artifact identification, performance concerns), and document results to support diagnostic image quality and patient safety.
  • Conduct electrical safety testing on probes and related accessories to confirm safe clinical use
  • Provides advanced troubleshooting support for equipment issues and coordinates on-site service engineers for unscheduled repairs as required.
  • Assists with equipment repairs across multiple modalities and manufacturers, including parts ordering, tracking, and distribution.
  • Supports equipment installations, working collaboratively with the modality leaders to schedule installations, removals, and application changes.
  • Assists with equipment planning and installation requirements, including coordination of service calls with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Utilizes inventory management software to track and maintain equipment, parts, and supplies, and conducts routine audits of ultrasound probes and related accessory equipment.
  • Conducts condition and safety audits of clinical equipment to ensure adherence to operational requirements and regulatory safety standards.
  • Assists with procurement activities, including purchasing and resale of equipment and supplies as appropriate.
  • Participates in special projects and additional related duties as assigned.
  • Adheres to all applicable privacy, confidentiality, and security policies in relation to EFW operations, patients, and employees.
  • Undertake other related duties as assigned

You have the following:

  • Minimum of a two-year diploma or a bachelorโ€™s degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution or a related field.
  • 2+ years field experience servicing imaging equipment from multiple manufacturers (e.g., Canon, GE, Philips, Shimadzu) is an asset
    • 2+ years of field experience working with GE C-arms is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and best practices related to imaging equipment, radiation safety, and protection
  • Strong mechanical and electromechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and strong networking knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of PACS imaging systems to assist in installation for equipment
  • Strong knowledge in ticketing systems and asset tracking systems
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and feedback to the Quality Assurance Coordinator and/or Quality Management Manager regarding equipment-related issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence outcomes and collaborate effectively with staff and physicians
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving materials weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally for training

Schedule: This position will require the incumbent to work at a variety of EFW sites or multiple sites daily. Nature of the work may require the incumbent to work a variety of non-standard hours including evenings and weekends. Flexibility with short notice shift changes is required.
