Job Summary
The Device Technician is responsible for supporting the management, monitoring, and follow-up of Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) devices under the direction of a cardiologist or licensed provider. This role assists with in-clinic and remote device interrogations, patient education, data management, and coordination of care related to pacemakers, implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), loop recorders, and other cardiac devices. The Device Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by supporting timely follow-up, monitoring device alerts, and assisting with quality and documentation requirements within the Cardiology Department.
Essential Functions
  • Perform device interrogations and preliminary data downloads in clinic and inpatient settings under provider supervision.
  • Assist providers with device programming adjustments as directed and within scope of training.
  • Monitor remote device transmissions and vendor platforms for alerts; notify provider of actionable findings.
  • Generate and maintain device reports in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Educate patients on remote monitoring equipment setup, troubleshooting, and compliance.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments for device checks and ensure timely completion of required evaluations.
  • Collaborate with cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and vendor representatives to support device management.
  • Maintain accurate device logs, inventory, and supply management.
  • Participate in data collection, quality improvement initiatives, and registry reporting as applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and applicable regulatory standards in all patient interactions.
  • Assist with MRI device clearance documentation and coordination per established protocols.
  • Maintain current knowledge of cardiac device technology and software platforms.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, electrophysiology, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Understanding of pacemakers, ICDs, loop recorders, and remote monitoring systems
  • Ability to interpret preliminary device data and escalate findings appropriately
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Effective communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Proficiency in EMR systems and vendor device platforms
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a clinical setting

Qualifications
Education
  • Postsecondary (Cert/Diploma/Program Grad) completion of an accredited Cardiac Device, Cardiology Technology, or Electrophysiology training program (Required) Or
  • Associate's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Allied Health, or related field (Required)

Licenses/Certifications
  • CCDS - Certified Cardiac Device Specialist or IBHRE certification (Preferred) And
  • CCT - Certified Cardiographic Technician or RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) (Preferred) And
  • Other: Additional certifications may be required in accordance with state regulations and facility policy (May be Required-Facility Specific)
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or within facility-specified time frame (Required)

Experience
  • 1+ years experience in cardiology, cardiac monitoring, electrophysiology, or related clinical setting (Preferred) And
  • Prior Experience with pacemaker/ICD interrogation systems and remote monitoring platforms (Preferred)
