The Critical Facilities Engineering Intern supports the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of mission-critical data center facilities. This position offers hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, and building automation control systems in a high-reliability environment, while working closely with experienced professionals.

The Customer Operations Engineering Intern supports the execution of customer-requested work within the data center, including installations, deinstallations, Smart Hands services, and ticket-based operational tasks. This position offers hands-on experience with customer-facing data center operations involving cabling, equipment management, and service workflows in a high-availability environment, while working closely with experienced professionals.

The team values safety, precision, customer focus, quality execution, teamwork, and continuous learning, and is committed to providing an inclusive and equitable work environment.

This program aims to help the intern acquire foundational skills and a discipline in safety and service, and to spark a technical interest in a long-term career in data center operations, facilities engineering, and customer operations engineering.


Duration: September - November, 2026 (12 weeks)

What You'll Learn and Do

As a Critical Facilities Engineering Intern, you will:

  • gain hands-on experience with critical infrastructure systems, including power, cooling, HVAC, fire suppression, and building control systems;
  • learn how data center facilities are operated, monitored, and maintained in a 24/7 mission-critical environment;
  • develop foundational skills in incident response, risk-based facilities management, and preventive maintenance;
  • build strong skills in problem-solving, troubleshooting, documentation, and safety awareness.

As a Customer Operations Engineering Intern, you will:

  • gain hands-on experience with customer operational activities, including cross-connects, equipment installation, Smart Hands services, and service requests;
  • learn how customer requests are managed, tracked, and executed in a 24/7 mission-critical data center environment;
  • develop foundational skills in ticket management, documentation, service execution, and operational accuracy;
  • become familiar with cross-connect work, customer equipment management, and basic testing and troubleshooting activities;
  • observe how customer operations teams coordinate with internal and external partners to support customer deployments and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Critical Facilities:

  • Assist facilities technicians and engineers with daily data center operations and maintenance activities.
  • Under supervision, help with routine preventive maintenance checks and basic repairs on non-critical facility components.
  • Participate in site walkthroughs to detect and log failures or anomalies such as water leaks, unusual noises, or equipment issues.
  • Accurately maintain records, work orders, permits, and maintenance logs, including the maintenance operating protocol.
  • Monitor the building control system and help respond to basic alarms according to standard operating procedures.
  • Support incident management activities, escalating findings to engineers as needed.

Customer Operations:

  • Support customer operations by handling routine ticket-based work requests.
  • Help with customer installations and deinstallations, including basic assembly and installation activities, cabling support, and customer asset management.
  • Respond to and update service requests and troubleshooting tickets following standard operating procedures.
  • Support routine in-cage and infrastructure installations such as basic cable management, ladder racks, patch panels, cabinets, and pole supports.
  • Help with routine cross-connect work and basic troubleshooting activities.
  • Accurately maintain records of work performed, ticket updates, and operational documentation.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • High school diploma or relevant technical/vocational training.
  • Interest or experience in HVAC, mechanical, electrical, or maintenance systems; or interest in data center operations, customer service, or technical environments.
  • Willingness to work on-site in a data center environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, hazard awareness, and a willingness to learn standardized processes and procedures.
  • Customer-focused mindset and strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lb (23 kg) and perform physical tasks such as climbing, bending, and manually handling objects (with or without accommodation).
