The Mackey Lab seeks to hire a Research Technician 1 to support ongoing research through computational data analysis and laboratory experimentation. The successful candidate will analyze existing datasets using the Ohio Supercomputer Cluster via command-line tools in RStudio and contribute to wet lab research investigating interactions between bacterial species and host plants. This role also includes participation in manuscript preparation for publication.
Essential Duties
  • Analyze previously generated datasets using RStudio and command-line tools on the Ohio Supercomputer Cluster
  • Perform and support wet lab experiments investigating interactions between bacterial species and plant hosts
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory workflows and experimental protocols
  • Accurately record, manage, and interpret experimental and computational data
  • Contribute to drafting, editing, and finalizing scientific manuscripts for publication
  • Collaborate with lab members to advance research objectives and project goals
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 0 years of relevant experience required
  • Basic familiarity or willingness to learn R, command-line environments, and data analysis tools
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a research team
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with RStudio, bioinformatics, or use of high-performance computing systems
  • Laboratory experience in microbiology, plant biology, or a related field
  • Interest in plant-microbe interactions and scientific research

This position is a part-time, temporary position that will end within 1 year of the start date.
Work location is in Columbus, OH, Kottman Hall.
