Job description

We are seeking Scientist II, Bioinformatics to join IQVIA Laboratories at Santa Fe, NM.
We hire passionate innovators who drive healthcare forward through thoughtful and inclusive collaboration. If you want to discover a career with greater purpose, join us as we transform and accelerate research and development.
Job Summary:
As a Scientist II, Bioinformatics, you will operate and steward Sanger and NGS sequencing analysis pipelines that support antibody discovery programs. You will combine hands-on wet-lab sequencing support with day-to-day informatics execution, delivering accurate, traceable sequence outputs and reports for discovery scientists on tight timelines.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Operate established Sanger sequencing pipelines, including assembly, trimming, QC, variant calling, and delivery of curated sequence lists
  • Run NGS pipelines across Illumina, PacBio, and Oxford Nanopore workflows for antibody discovery, including paired-chain assembly, clonotyping, repertoire annotation, and longitudinal analysis
  • Manage the informatics queue by receiving analysis requests, scoping deliverables, setting timeline expectations, and tracking work in progress
  • Perform wet-lab work supporting sequencing operations, including NGS sample preparation, library QC, plate and sample tracking, Sanger submissions, and coordination with sequencing cores or vendors
  • Use AI coding assistants such as Claude, Claude Code, Copilot, or equivalent tools to author, extend, debug, and document pipelines, scripts, and reports while reviewing outputs for correctness
  • Develop, maintain, and run custom scripts, visualizations, Excel and PDF reports, and lightweight dashboards for discovery, program management, and customer-facing teams
  • Operate production sequencing workflows on AWS using S3, EC2, HPC or parallel compute, and pipeline frameworks such as Nextflow, Snakemake, or equivalent
  • Maintain complete documentation in Benchling and version-controlled repositories while performing quality checks to ensure reproducibility, accuracy, and traceability
What We Are Looking For:
  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline (fresh PhD acceptable); OR MSc in a related discipline with 2+ years of directly relevant industry or academic experience
  • Hands-on exposure to sequencing data analysis, including Sanger and/or NGS analysis through thesis, coursework, academic research, or prior industry work
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience operating sequencing analysis pipelines for Sanger and at least one NGS platform, including Illumina, PacBio, or Oxford Nanopore
  • Wet-lab experience in molecular biology and/or NGS sample preparation
  • Working knowledge of AWS S3 and EC2, with willingness to grow into HPC, parallel compute, and pipeline orchestration frameworks such as Nextflow or Snakemake
  • Other equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree
The Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed for This Role:
  • Working knowledge of antibody discovery and antibody sequencing fundamentals, including library design, display campaigns, and sequencing-based readouts
  • Strong communication and customer-focus perspective, with the ability to triage and prioritize incoming sequencing-analysis requests
  • Quality-conscious approach with high ethics and integrity, including the ability to follow SOPs precisely while flagging anomalies and improvement opportunities
  • Ability to collaborate closely with wet-lab scientists, informatics teams, Project Managers, and Technical Supervisors to support accurate and timely delivery
  • Comfort using AI coding assistants as part of day-to-day work, including disciplined review of AI-generated code, analyses, and reports
  • Desirable experience with R, Streamlit, Dash, Plotly, FastAPI, PyTorch, scikit-learn, AlphaFold, RoseTTAFold, Benchling SDK or APIs, laboratory information systems, AWS Batch, or ParallelCluster
