What is a biofuels job?

A Biofuels job involves researching, developing, and producing renewable fuels made from biological materials like plants, algae, or waste. Professionals in this field work in roles such as scientists, engineers, or technicians, focusing on improving biofuel production efficiency and sustainability. They may be involved in laboratory research, industrial production, regulatory compliance, or process optimization. The goal is to create environmentally friendly alternatives to fossil fuels for transportation and energy needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a biofuels position?

To thrive in a biofuels role, you need a solid background in chemistry, engineering, or environmental science, typically with a relevant degree or industry experience. Familiarity with process modeling software, laboratory equipment, and safety certifications such as OSHA or HAZWOPER are often required. Strong problem-solving skills, effective communication, and collaborative teamwork distinguish successful professionals in this area. These skills ensure the efficient development, production, and optimization of sustainable biofuel processes while maintaining high safety and environmental standards.

What are the typical career advancement opportunities in the biofuels industry?

Professionals in biofuels often begin their careers in technical roles such as research, process engineering, or production, with the opportunity to advance into project management, regulatory compliance, or operations leadership positions as they gain experience. Many companies also support further education and certification, which can lead to roles in sustainability strategy or research and development management. Cross-functional collaboration with teams in agriculture, logistics, and energy policy is common, providing a broad exposure to the industry. With the ongoing growth in renewable energy, there is strong potential for career progression and specialization in this sector.

This is a rare executive opportunity for a commercially driven leader with a strong background in infrastructure investment, corporate strategy and capital deployment to help shape the next phase of growth for a rapidly expanding lowโ€‘carbon energy business.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the executive leadership team, you will lead the company's longโ€‘term growth strategy, corporate development initiatives, investment activities and strategic partnerships. This role sits at the heart of the organisation, combining strategic leadership with handsโ€‘on execution across project finance, M&A, capital raising and renewable infrastructure development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead infrastructure financing initiatives, including project finance, tax equity, debt and private capital solutions.

  • Evaluate new market opportunities, carbon reduction initiatives and lowโ€‘carbon fuel strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with executive leadership across operations, finance and commercial functions to prioritise growth opportunities and support business planning.

About You

We're looking for an accomplished executive with a proven track record in infrastructure investment, corporate development or strategic finance within the energy sector.

You will bring:
  • 12+ years of senior leadership experience in infrastructure private equity, investment banking, corporate development, strategy consulting or renewable energy.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex project finance transactions, acquisitions and strategic investments.
  • Strong commercial understanding of renewable energy, biofuels, RNG or other low-carbon infrastructure markets.
  • Experience working with institutional investors, private equity, lenders and strategic partners.
  • Excellent financial modelling, commercial negotiation and transaction execution skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental markets, carbon intensity programmes, LCFS, RINs or similar regulatory frameworks would be highly advantageous.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline. An MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is preferred.
Why Apply?

This is an outstanding opportunity to join a business at the forefront of the renewable energy transition, playing a key role in shaping its longโ€‘term strategy, capital investment programme and future growth. You'll work alongside an experienced executive leadership team while helping to deliver major infrastructure projects and create lasting value within one of the fastestโ€‘growing sectors in clean energy.
