Job description

The Alden March Bioethics Institute (AMBI) at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York, invites applications for a fullโ€‘time, tenureโ€‘track faculty position at the assistant professor level. The start date can be negotiated but is expected between January 2027 and July 2027. Candidates should have a concentration and specialization in bioethics or any area in ethics with applications to bioethics. Successful candidates will engage in conceptual or empirical research in bioethics, teach two graduate courses in clinical ethics, participate in the ethics curriculum of Albany Medical College, and serve as a clinical ethics consultant for the Albany Medical System. Prior experience with clinical ethics consultation is not required; however, the successful candidate will undergo training in clinical ethics consultation during the first year in the faculty position.

Responsibilities
  • Publish conceptual or empirical scholarly works
  • Provide clinical ethics consultation for the Albany Medical System
  • Teach and design ethics courses for AMBIโ€™s online graduate bioethics program
  • Teach in the fourโ€‘year ethics curriculum of Albany Medical College
  • Mentor graduate students, medical students, and clinical ethics fellows

We welcome applicants with a terminal degree from a wide range of disciplines including philosophy, anthropology, sociology, history, medicine, nursing, and law. The ability to secure external funding is desirable but not required.

The salary for this position is $111,921.00. The Albany Medical System offers desirable benefits including generous leave time, health and dental insurance, the opportunity to participate in a 403(b) plan, and a pension plan.
