Job description

Mission Statement

Job Summary
A part time position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Les Satin in the Department of Pharmacology in the University of Michigan Medical School and the Caswell Diabetes Institute (CDI). The laboratory conducts research into the ionic and metabolic control of insulin secretion and diabetes.
Responsibilities*
Duties will include:
  • Routine laboratory housekeeping including placing orders, lab organization, recordkeeping, maintaining adequate supplies and reagents, general lab safety, and handling regular servicing arrangements for genotyping and inventories of animals
  • Routine lab duties such as maintaining instruments, making standard buffer solutions and tissue culture media
  • Islet cell culture under sterile conditions
  • Basic molecular and cell biological protocols and biochemical assays

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences or chemistry, Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of one year of lab experience
  • Familiarity with laboratory practices and research
  • Hands on experience performing cell cultures
  • Familiarity with cell biology protocol
  • Evidence of good organizational skills
