The Process R&D organization is seeking a highly motivated scientist or engineer to support the development, scale-up, and commercialization of bioprocesses and products across the Recovery and Formulations groups. This role will work at the interface of research, manufacturing, engineering, quality, regulatory, and commercial teams to develop robust processes and products from laboratory proof-of-concept through pilot-scale and full-scale manufacturing. The role is based in Palo Alto, California (on-site role lab role).

Where You'll Make a Difference

  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot bioprocesses for enzymes, microbial products, and other bio-based solutions across multiple product platforms.
  • Design and execute laboratory experiments to improve process understanding, product performance, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Lead or support scale-up activities from laboratory development through pilot plant and commercial manufacturing operations.
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles to solve complex technical challenges and drive continuous process improvements.
  • Analyze experimental and manufacturing data to identify opportunities that enhance product quality, efficiency, and performance.
  • Collaborate with Research & Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory, Engineering, and Commercial teams to accelerate innovation and commercialization efforts.
  • Develop new technologies, formulations, and manufacturing processes that support strategic business objectives.
  • Contribute to intellectual property development through invention disclosures, patent support, and innovative technical solutions.
  • Mentor junior scientists, engineers, interns, and technicians while fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

What Makes You the Right Fit

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Food Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience.
  • For Scientist II consideration: Ph.D. with industry experience, Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • For Senior Scientist I consideration: Ph.D. with 5+ years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 10+ years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in process development, scale-up, manufacturing support, or industrial bioproduct development.
  • Demonstrated ability to design experiments, interpret complex datasets, and translate findings into practical solutions.
  • Experience working across laboratory, pilot-scale, and manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of bioprocessing, downstream recovery operations, formulation development, or enzyme, microbial, and bio-based product development.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively translate technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across functions and drive projects to successful completion.
