Required Degree: PhD in Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, or a closely related field. The required degree must be completed by the start date.
Experience: Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ecology, organismal biology, and/or field biology. Evidence of an active research program in ecology or a related discipline that engages undergraduate and graduate students. Experience with field-based, lab-based, or applied ecological research and teaching is expected.
Duties/Expectations:
The Department of Biology at Brigham Young University invites applications for a continuing faculty status (CFS) position in Field and Quantitative Ecology. We seek a candidate whose teaching and research programs will strengthen our core areas in ecology, evolution, and organismal biology.
Primary teaching responsibilities will include courses such as BIO 350 (Ecology), BIO 220 (Animal Diversity), BIO 120 (Field Biology), and related undergraduate and graduate offerings. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to field-based and experiential learning opportunities and to support courses that serve students across multiple emphases, including Ecology & Evolution, Wildlife & Wildlands Conservation, and Environmental Science & Sustainability.
The successful candidate will establish and maintain an externally visible research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students in meaningful, mentored research experiences. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, field ecology, quantitative ecology, organismal ecology, or applied ecological systems. Candidates whose work integrates field-based approaches with quantitative or analytical methods are particularly encouraged to apply.
Faculty are expected to contribute to the academic life of the department through teaching, research, and service. This includes mentoring students, participating in departmental and university service, and supporting the mission of Brigham Young University.
