Maintenance Technicians repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as printing presses, saddle stitcher/trimmers, cutters, folders, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, heating/air conditioning systems, compressed air systems and related binding/finishing and prepress production machines and equipment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Observes mechanical devices, equipment and machinery in operation and listens to their sounds to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment, repair or replacement
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, machine parts or specifications 
  • Dismantles machinery or equipment to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements
  • Adjusts functional parts or devices and control instruments
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices
  • Assembles and test operates machinery and equipment to verify correction of malfunction
  • Coordinates with manager and assists with production operator's timely preventative maintenance and predictive parts replacement and repair
  • Sets up and operates drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts
  • Repairs electrical equipment or replaces faulty wiring, switches, or relays, as qualified to perform
  • Coordinates for outside services when needed
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts, repairs or replacement equipment or pieces
  • Monitors paper recycling operations. Does minor repairs and coordinates outside service with manager for major repairs and operation malfunctions.  
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable OSHA and EPA federal and state rules, regulations, policies and guidelines and company safety rules in the plant
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities

  • One-year certificate from college or technical school and three to five years of related experience and/or training or any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions and decimals.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership, organization and communication are necessary
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement appropriate preventative measures
  • Ability to develop new techniques for work processes
  • Must be able to give technical direction to others and project leadership over multiple safety teams
  • Ability to redirect to issues as they emerge and reprioritize based on current business conditions 
  • Must possess excellent communication skills and be able to multi-task

Physical Requirements

  • Requires use of proper body mechanics with pushing, pulling, reaching, lifting, squatting, kneeling and bending
  • Pushing/pulling and lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Requires fine motor hand and arm movement, manual dexterity and coordination
  • Requires near visual acuity
  • Requires working around and operating departmental equipment
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department in the facility
  • Requires the ability to function in a professional manner under stressful circumstances
