Material Handler

Job Title: Material Handler

Department: Warehouse/Shipping

Reports To: Warehouse Manager


Summary Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials to be moved.
  • Log and remove Bindery/Finishing materials out of inventory for the upcoming jobs.
  • Log excess materials back into inventory when jobs complete
  • Wrap skids. 
  • Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
  • Stage printed material to appropriate equipment.
  • Remove full waste boxes from Bindery/Finishing and Pressroom.
  • Maintain product handling equipment.
  • Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information.
  • Operates forklift or reach truck to assist in loading or moving materials and products throughout the warehouse and production areas.
  • Operates straight truck to assist in moving materials and products between buildings.
  • Computer knowledge preferred
  • Ability to work by self with little supervision.
  • Will handle various shipping and freight duties.


Objectives

  • Reduce downtime incurred by machine operators due to moving skids of material
  • Insure accuracy of materials to each piece of equipment

Qualifications/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Computer skills/knowledge preferred.
  • Efficient time management skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Shipping and postal knowledge preferred but not required.

Education and/or Experience:  

  •  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 1 year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 Physical Demands:

  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

Work Environment:

  •  While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to vibration and medium noise level.
